Default Opening Day

April 1st is Friday and I am really looking forward to getting out there! I did a little water scouting today and surface temps over wide open water were a very cool 37 degrees which surprised me. While ice out was earlier this year, water temps are staying cooler.

Good luck to anyone heading out Friday and this weekend!!

Dan

I will be out Dan. Originally considering targeting Rattlesnake but I think I will look for warmer waters in shallower bays. Weather report is calling for 90% chance of rain and winds 15-20. I can live with rain but am not a fan of 2 foot waves.

Saturday should be less windy/rainy but colder. I expect better fishing on Sat.

Good luck and be safe.

Sounds great Mike! Good thinking on the warmer waters! If you get cold or too wet, stop by Welch for some hot coffee, some lunch or just to warmup. I'll probably be there after 10:00 AM. It's always nice to put a face to the name!

Looking forward to watching the boats on Paugus doing the big circle trolling. Ill be on the dock looking for bass as soon as the water gets a few degrees warmer. I wonder if the bass will pre spawn earlier than normal?
Good luck to all the anglers. It should be great spring fishing after an awful winter!

Default opening day

Opening weekend looks interesting. Windy Friday right through Sunday. Sunday looks especially brutal with a high of 36 degrees, 50% chance of snow and WNW winds at 25-35 mph. I don't think I'll be in the broads this weekend. Be safe everyone and wear your PFD's.

I'll be out there too. This year is quite a treat with ice already out. Hope to destroy my 145 days on water record! Good luck to all and be safe

Default Can't Wait

Even though it was a mild winter, it feels like a long time since we could fish. Looking forward to a great day rain or shine. Sleeping on the island the night before is just a bonus! Stayed out last weekend and took a chance with the water. I think I may be draining it again at the end of this weekend. It looks like some very cold nights next week or so.

Could someone remind me what channel the chatter is on? is it 12 or 14?

Thanks and GOOD LUCK FISHING!!
Dan

We all know that the water temp dictates when the bass will spawn. Considering ice out early I would venture a guess that it will be earlier then usual. However ishoot mention in one of his posts that the water temp was still unusually cold (37 degrees ). So lets hope for a lot of Hot weather. Soon!!

Default weather

4-8 inches snow Monday night through Tuesday with nighttime temps well below freezing most of next week. I thought it was supposed to warm up after ice out.

Hopefully my boat is going in the water this week. I read a few spots online that the water temp needs to hit 45 before the salmon get active. Looks like we are least a week away from that.

Can't wait to get out there though!

In Waterville Valley, the 7-acre, 10' deep, brook fed and concrete dam enhanced Corcoran's Pond has froze over. Temp here right now is about 18-degrees.

Is it legal to go ice fishing after April 1? .

We (two of us) went 6 for 8 on Friday with 1 of the six being a 21" laker. Of the 5 salmon caught, 4 were over 20" and very healthy, the other was a very healthy 18"er.

Saturday we didn't do so well. Between the cold front that was coming in and us starting out a little later than usual (island wine will do that!) we only caught 1 salmon and we really worked for it! Sunday was too windy for me, stayed in and watched movies!

Here's a pic of my friend with a 5 year old female we caught...

Hope everyone had a good opening day / weekend!!

Dan
