Web Cam set-up HELP!!
So I decided to set up a webcam at Mink Island. First challenge was lack of full time internet. I've been using a MIFI from Verizon that works fine but decided to buy a router that would take a USB modem to set up as as the permanent lake WIFI. I bought a Cradlepoint MBR95 router that accepts a Verizon USB Modem and a Foscam FI8905W wireless IP Camera.
I followed the Foscam instructions and got it all set up running wireless off the router. My brain cramp is happening when I try to set up the port forwarding so I can access the camera when I'm no on the router network. I've watched the Cradlepoint youtube video -- pretty simple set up for port forwarding and believe I set it up correctly, but it doesn't work and the tech aspects of this are beyond my experience. Any of you have experience with the cradlepoint router and have any thoughts on what to check? Much appreciated! |

If you're on the Verizon 4G/LTE network it will never work the way you want... Verizon does not assign publicly routable IP's on the LTE service, you're essentially behind a giant Verizon firewall.
You can set it up so your Foscam sends and image every X minutes to a website, which then let's you see a series of rolling snapshots. It's not live, but that's OK because no matter what your 5GB data cap on that Verizon account equates to about 96 hours of streaming per month, assuming you do nothing else. PM me if you want more help/detail.

Gracias!
Thanks! That's very helpful.
So I played around with the settings on the cam so it's sending an email periodically with a pic. I'll set it up on Mink next weekend! |
