Boat Launch in Long Island/Moultonborough
In past seasons, I have used the boat ramp near Libby's Museum to launch a 21' Boston Whaler. I would like to find a launch a bit closer to our cabin. Some potential options include Center Harbor ramp, public ramp near Harilla's, or the ramp near the beach on Long Island.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on your experience with those ramps in terms of ease of use, condition of ramp, etc. Alternatively, I'd certainly appreciate any suggestions for other ramps in that area. Thanks. |

I use harilla all the time. It’s sand / rock but I don’t have a problem with my little whalers. Come out slow as it’s a little uneven but stable.

I've heard that there may be rocks to one side of Harillas'. Can I pull back boat straight out when launching or is it best to back off trailer in one direction?

I don't know anything about Harilla's but the Center Harbor ramp is a very good set up. I think it's $15. Personally, I wouldn't call the ramp on Long Island by the beach a ramp. I launch a little (i.e. 13 foot) Whaler my kids use there but that's about it for me.

There’s a rock on the pier side that makes a little bump pulling in / out. So I try to go easy. If you trim Up and back around toward the pier you should be ok. Don’t let yourself float the other way. I believe that’s very low. We live down the road so it’s perfectly convenient Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I used the Long Island launch for many years without trouble. I was putting in a 20ft I/O cuddy cabin.

The launch spot at the Long Island beach is at the end of the beach farthest from the bridge, just as the road turns uphill, and faces SE. During the summer, there is a dock to help with loading people and gear following launch. There is a "ramp" of sorts, in the form of a series of linked concrete bars going down into the water. Sand covers the lowest end. Just out from shore is a deep hole, likely the result of "power loading" (a no-no) over the years. The ramp will accommodate a boat 20-25 ft or perhaps longer comfortably.
From Memorial day to Labor Day, parking of cars & trailers by the launch area is not allowed. Parking for trailers is available up by the fire station, a couple of miles back up the Neck Rd, and I assume a trailer would be left there and the car driven back to the beach area, for which a beach sticker is required. Weekends are quite busy at the launch, as is the case anywhere. I launch my boat before Memorial Day mid-week and haul it out in early November, also mid-week. The launch ramp is a ghost town midweek by then. |
