Totally agree! My husband and I had the pleasure of doing business with & getting to know John a couple of years ago - he was a gem of a man and will be greatly missed throughout the Lakes Region.

Bernie Girl, I just noticed that you are fairly new to the forum and glad you have joined us. Have fun and enjoy the Winni Forum while making many new friends. I am extremely sorry for not getting here sooner to welcome you to the site, but I seem to do this on a hit or miss as I read different threads that catch my eye. Be good and enjoy.

Mr. Bridges was born in Concord New Hampshire and as a young boy summered in Wolfeboro. Some of his fondest memories were of working at Goodhue and Hawkins Navy Yard and on the steamship, the Swallow. In the 70s John served as director of Safety Services, N.H. Marine Patrol, and founded Island Real Estate in 1979. John served on various state boards over the years, including trustee of the Youth Development Center, Department of Environmental Services, Water Council, Water Resources, Moorings Appeal Board and he was a committee member of the Milfoil Committee. In the early 1990s, he was known for his folksy weather reports from his summer home on Barndoor Island.

I met him soon after I moved to Wolfeboro in the early 90s. I got to know him a little better when he and his son attended a class I taught at Kingswood HS Adult Ed. I'm proud to have known him. He had every right to be a magniloquent person but was just a kind giving gentle man.

Island Real Estate was the listing agent on the property that we purchased last Sept and I got to know him quite well while negotiating that transaction. I always thoroughly enjoyed getting together & talking with him (especially having a lot of laughs during/after the closing). A true loss!

Default an original

John was an original. I met and got to know him while buying ane selling island real estate. He always knew some one who could help fix things.
The lake and islands lost a valuable resource for lake knowledge and humor. Where else could you get someone to tell a story with a true New Hampshire accent.

Thank you so much for that post. We bought our island property 2 years ago from Island Realty. I had the pleasure of meeting John and enjoyed getting to know him. He was a gentleman and he will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Default Sad passing

Like many we met John while purchasing our island "project". He was a very nice man and helped us quite a bit. We kept in touch with him over the years and will miss him. Loved to hear his stories about politics in NH, since we knew many of the subjects. NH and the Lakes Region has lost a treasure.

Talking Nice Man!

A few years back I got a call from John. We had a wonderful time chatting about the lake and island living. After the pleasantries were out of the way, he asked how he could help me. I laughed and reminded him that he was the one that placed the call to me. He thought that was hilarious! He was looking for permission to use our dock for a local showing.

I wish that I had gotten to meet this nice man in person. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

He will be truly missed. He helped a lot of us islanders find our dream.
