Hope the youngster is ok. Amazing what people do and don't own up to it.
Saw a cruiser coming out of Weirs channel today with someone apparently sitting on a bow pulpit. I am a retired workaholic and continuing aquaholic. |

irresponsible boaters
Did something Saturday that I've never done in 20 yrs since buying on Winni. Called Marine patrol to report irresponsible boaters. Renters on a bow rider pulling small children were being buzzed by obvious "friends" on a jet boat. VERY dangerous as jet boat came quite close to the tubers. Marine patrol showed up maybe 15 minutes later and while activity was not at that time ongoing he did pull over jet boat for a good 45 minutes.
People are such dumbasses! |

Sad, and maddening....
This one should be jail time, IMO... not that they'll catch whoever it was.
I've seen a lot of progressively worse behavior over the years, but this is one of the worst. |

Something was going on Wednesday around 8pm too near that area. We were on our way back from Alton Bay (Pops Clam Shell, yum!!) and there were a couple of fire boats and a police boat, lights flashing.
I wonder if NH1 has their date wrong? |

This makes me sick.... I hope the teenagers are ok. I just don't understand people... I sure hope they are found and held accountable.

Here Y'Go...NH Year/Accidents
Lowest points—five and six years ago.
Oddly-shaped page didn't allow much enlargement. USCG-directed link: https://bard.knightpoint.systems/Pub...e/Report1.aspx

Operator's Education
Using the same above report page, I change the report by Operator's education. As I suspect the state certificate did not reduce operator's accidents, injuries and death.

Busy Lake
The lake certainly is as busy as I have ever seen it, which will drive up the accident count (perhaps not rate as percentage of boating hours).

To make the case against boater education, you might focus on how basic knowledge of navigation, right-of-way, weather, safety equipment, etc is a waste of time. |

Where to, Next?

I wondered that as well, as a boat—fitting that NHSP description—came blasting through Winter Harbor. (Unusual weekday behavior—but not sadly, unknown). Quote:
How safe would the lake be, without those certificates? Quote:
'Course, navigating Lake Winnipesaukee has a built-in "reinforcement", but the "Safe Passage" regulation is routinely shrugged-off. As I mentioned earlier, New Hampshire should require those few "unique" regulations be printed on the backs of every PFD sold in New Hampshire. (And every "Throwable Device"). Boating regulations could be found printed on the latter in the 1960s. Last Sunday, a Jet-Ski, skippered by a five-year-old proceeded at top speed towards the middle of my boat! Her "Daddy", sitting behind, hit the brakes, and stopped about 50' away. Little kids seem to be captivated by sailboats, but this "closer look" should have been seen from a much greater distance. Significantly, the NHMP boats and the M/V Mt. Washington have no difficulty shifting their courses very early when they sight my sailboat. Last week, an NHMP boat and I did one of those little "hallway dances", BUT still separated by a ¼-mile of water. .
