Default Launch Weekend!

The weekend you've all been waiting for: I should/will be launching my new jetski for the first time this Sunday!

Through my "excessive" research, I've found a few new friends who will be joining me this summer, which is a whole new chapter/experience in my lake life.

To confirm, for anyone who comes across this thread: I ordered a '20 GTX 170 w/audio system, OEM bumper kit, galvanized trailer, safety kit, storage organizers, etc. (sight unseen, fingers crossed I like it !) from DaSilva's.

I'll also be picking up Boatie Two from Melvin Village Marina on Sunday and camp opens up Thursday for the season.

Yayyyy!!!

This suddenly has become a much more interesting than the handful of other threads that inevitably go where we don't want them go.

I'll be up on May 18th - I've been ready for a month but need to be patient so I'll live vicariously through others.

Please post updates, good luck!

Yeah... >>sigh<< me too...

After working on a Florida dock one cold winter, I tried to stretch/relax my back on the beach sand. So...along comes Green Peace, who tried to tow me out to sea!

Default Watch party

Someone needs to find out where the launch will take place, and then go on Facebook Live and create a Watch Party. There would be so many attendees that Facebook may crash.

Given my...stature, it certainly has the makings of a short comedy!

Sunday is shaping up to look pretty nice—I'm hoping DaSilva's can have me ready by then!

I hear that Winni (the lake creature) is very active in cold water.

Do we know if she likes to eat seals?

45° according to DES. What's the temp you'd start riding in?

I'm a fair weather boater. I usually won't get on my jet ski until the water is about 60 but I'm on Waukewan so there are many times I can take it out ant not get wet at all. I also have a boat so I usually take that out early season instead.

Default Official Think Out Contest

Seems to be a bit of a mystery when Think and his jet ski will be in the water. Perhaps someone needs to start an Official Think Out Thread. Where is Island Girl? My guess is Sunday, May 3, 10:50 AM.

I never heard from DaSilva's yesterday, so methinks I may be picking up next weekend rather than this. Sad face.

Boatie Two is ready to go, though, so we'll be on the water tomorrow or Sunday, whichever is better!

It would be hilarious if when you launched for your first excursion on the lake, you dressed up in one of those T-Rex costumes you see on TV now and then!

Great question! YES. I think if my wife were able to back the trailer up, I could just back off the ski and take off, though it was so windy it probably wouldn't have mattered.

Luckily, I'm a researcher, and I'd discovered that a wetsuit, gloves, and booties would make a cold ride a comfortable ride, and I was prepared to get right in the water!

Thank goodness for asking questions and research and forums, amiright?!

Instant bestseller...for a very small demographic.

A note, though, for anyone who comes along doing research: the $10 neoprene gloves and booties kept my feet warm and the $149 Aqualung 3mm wetsuit was perfectly comfortable and warm in ~42° water.

The GTX 170 is such a great touring machine—yesterday's conditions were as rough as I'll ever go out in, and it was incredibly stable and comfortable. 3+ hours in the saddle with no discomfort, and my kids both felt perfectly safe...up to ~50. I mean, 45, because that's the fastest we went with the speed limit and all. Not the fastest in the lineup, but naturally aspirated was my goal for simplicity/overall ownership costs and efficiency. I rode 3+ hours yesterday on just over 1/4 tank (~5 gallons) of gas.

Not sure about top speed yet, as I think there's a 5-hour governor programmed into the computer, but I got to 57 in the "touring" mode.

Everything was perfect yesterday—the machine, clothing, launch and retrieval process, accessories—and that was in the worst conditions.

As for the purchase, DaSilva Motorsports was awesome to work with. Though Chuck seems unable to smile, Jake was incredibly patient (you can imagine how I am on the buying side) with all my questions and met me after work Friday to deliver my machine. They had all the accessories installed and the machine ready to show me final details. A really great experience, for anyone seeking a dealer. PS I had nooo idea how many machines they have until I went to their service center—pretty ridiculous, actually, for what I thought was a "small" dealer.

I know some of you here needle me on my research, but having the perfect outcome for my ~$15k is worth putting up with it. Now, hopefully the machine will be reliable!

Cheers, all, and please do connect with me if any of my (extensive) research can help!

Captain Dunleavy reads and comments frequently on this site. He wants you to stop by the Glendale Marine Patrol Headquarters for a "discussion".

No worries, but be sure to bring cash for bail!

AWESOME
I am glad to hear you had a blast.

Since you are the research guy, if I may ask.
Where did you get the Wet Suit from and the brand?
How easy is it to get in and out of it and how comfortable is it?

Thanks in advance.

The first response was a joke, the second a request for info, and yours, well, the same old waste.

You just can't avoid being a jerk, huh? You're part of the problem here.

Thanks, friend!

This is the suit I bought: https://us.aqualung.com/products/hydroflex-3mm-men.

It was $149, is super comfortable—much more so than I would've thought—and the extra length in the legs (I'm a meatball) is easily taken up with a small fold in the knees. It is really easy to get in and out of, as well. I'd definitely recommend it without hesitation.

I bought it at a dive shop, and I'm glad I did because I was able to try on a couple to see the differences and sizing. Another one I tried on had a gritty type of material I don't think I would've enjoyed wearing.

If you're interested in this suit—another person I met through a forum already bought one—message me, and I can help with sizing (I am in no way affiliated with any party!).

Cheers!

I apologize for not clarifying—for the top speed runs, I brought the machine to [insert appropriate water body here].

I used to read all "New Posts". Now I've gone back to reading mostly General Discussion and Boating where things are mostly friendly, and not political. You can block Think's posts or just not open them. The post above does not advance a friendly forum. I do look for your old photo postings. Thank you for those.
I prefer to think of Thinkxinyou's postings as "youthful enthusiasm". In that light, just fine, and he accepts some needling in good spirit.

It is interesting that an individual who could care less has posted no fewer than 19 times to Think's multiple jet ski threads since late October.

I've enjoyed Think's evolving story in the same way I enjoyed SanFrans story about his cross country journey to NH last year. Multiple chapters, learning mixed in, enjoyable topic during a slow time for the Forum, and, this year especially, a stark diversion from the endless political discourse and negativity.

That’s because he could care less. I think what he meant to say is that he couldn’t care less.

I'll hook up for a ride (on your machine, since I don't have a waverunner) as long as you ride "bitch", unless you're ok with me taking it by myself. I'll bring it back the same way I found it. You can trust me, I'm not like the other's...!!!

I'm sure you're right—we saw him while passing through the narrow corridor in front of Ambrose Cove, and my buddy and I couldn't agree on whether he was waving us "hello" or "slow the hell down"/"you're too close."

Final note on my PWC purchase: it's the perfect machine for us. The result of all my research is (almost always) zero buyer's remorse.

I've got 25 hours on the machine—I know some of you have seen my iBoat Facebook posts—and it's awesome for the touring I've done with my kids.

Thanks for all the tips...even the needles.
