Smile New, revamped Canoe restaurant

Went to the soft opening of Canoe last night...what an amazing job they did with renovations! The upstairs bar is much larger, and I loved the open kitchen. The new menu has many of the old favorites, but new items as well. Their grand opening is Tuesday night

Cant wait to see it. Maybe this weekend. Do you know if they are still going to serve a full menu at the bar?

Looking forward to it--though people, like above, report having issues, we've been at least half a dozen times each summer with nothing but exceptional food and service. Looking forward to a burger with pulled pork and onion crispers, sweet potato fries, and a Shirley Temple!

New owners or management? I had a horrible experience a couple years back and told myself we wouldn’t be back.

Same owners. One bad experience should not keep you away. Everyone can have an off night especially in the busy season. I have been there dozens of times and always had very good to excellent experiences but I do stay away Fridays and Saturdays in season.

My issue happened during the winter and was quickly addressed plus we were comped. It was a simple quality control issue, but never should have happened, which the manager agreed. It was serious enough that if something like it happens again, I am done.

I like Canoe and am a frequent customer, I will try again, hopefully everything is great again.

Default Opening night...

How was it?

They have a good looking menu and reasonably priced.

Hope they do well.

Scott Oluette. They also own “O” and bellies and butts. They also cater. Been around for years and just renovated Canoe.

Anyone been to Canoe since the updates? Wondering about the pricing, as my wife got something from there last night that seems to have gone up significantly.

They did a great job with the place. Stopped for a quick lunch with my daughter (my Uber driver) and had a great meal

We dropped in on formal opening day and liked the new look. The food was good with one gripe. There is a pork bite appetizer and when we ordered it the bites were mostly fat. We were told it is the cut of meat, which turns out to be a pork belly which is VERY fatty. Some people like that. We didn't. They were tasty, just don't like the fat. We mentioned it to the waitress and she seemed very interested in how she should inform people as to the nature of the appetizer. I consider it a personal taste issue to be aware of, not an error on Canoe's part.

Prices are probably up a bit but how much I am not really sure. It never was a cheap place to eat.

All in all we enjoyed our visit very much.

I have been a huge fan of Canoe for a long time. The renovations look great but it is not for me. The atmosphere that kept me returning is gone. Oh well. Good luck Canoe.

I was never a fan of Canoe the 3 or 4 times I had been there so maybe it's time for me to give it a try again.

We went early because we hadn't eaten all day. It wasn't busy at all but more people were coming in as we were leaving.

It looks like "Bellies and Butts" has a new name. Is it still owned by Canoe?

Post Tried Canoe this evening

Hi all,

We stopped into Canoe for dinner this evening. They have made significant renovations...the upstairs bar is much larger and the dining room is much less lake kitsch and more standard dining room. The entrance has been opened up and the restaurant is generally more open and airy. There was still a smell of sawdust, so I suspect that not everything is done.

We ended up eating in the screen room which is nice although I found the chairs a bit harsh.

The menu is not radically different than prior to the renovation. The prices seem comparable and there are a number of old dishes and some new ones. Overall, presentation and quality seem similar to before the renovation.

Jetskier I agree the only negative is the chairs in the screened in porch downstairs. They are a bit uncomfortable

I have not been to the Canoe this season but, If the only complaints are about the seats for your ASS, yeah, they are doing alright

Some people need something to complain about!

Not complaining it’s just the only negative and it’s only in the screened in area downstairs. Everything else was excellent as usual.

Somehow it seems that any critique drives things into a rat hole. I thought Joey2665 was reasonable in his comments. Restaurants are about the experience...too hot, too cold or an uncomfortable seat are clearly impacting. I did not want to over emphasize the issue because the food and service are fine and I like Canoe. However, the chairs are so bad that when I reached under mine to pull it forward, a protruding screw cut my finger. My recommendation...just replace the chairs and move on...no harm no foul.

My advice to restaurants doing makeovers...DON'T CHEAP OUT ON THE CHAIRS!
Being 6'4" and 270, I find discomfort in many of them out there!
I don't go to Fenway park either...

Had dinner at Canoe last week. My husband had the Haddock and he liked it. I had a Veggie Burger. My burger was not good. It was very mushy and it broke apart. Next time i will get beef.

Funny! Sorry your mush sandwich didn’t satisfy...remember:

Vegetables squished together = mush
Beef = Burger

Default Twice in 2 Weeks!

Visited the Canoe 2xs in the last two weeks and found the food, service, and new bar/seating area to be top notch and quite comfortable; Scott came to our table (on both visits) and inquired about the food and service.............

My wife had the Broiled Scallops, I had the Chicken Parmesan, and we also had our favorite calamari appetizer along with pork nachos.....................all were just outstanding!

Only one observation, the Calamari appetizer which used to be enough for two now barely feeds one.....same great taste, just a woefully small order!

Wishing Scott and his team all the best; we're planning on returning Friday night...........................WELL DONE!
