Default A/C HVAC advice ?

We plan to replace our 3 ton A/C unit with a heat pump designed to work in conjunction with our oil burning furnace. The heat pump will be the principal heat source until the outside temperature drops to 30 degrees or so, at which point the oil burner will take over.

We’ve received several estimates from HVAC companies, including American Air Systems and Gunstock HVAC. American Air Systems proposes a Bosch heat pump (model # BOVA 36HDN1-M18M) and Gunstock has proposed a Samsung unit (model SAMCCXH36UPB).

Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has received services (including new installations) from either American Air Systems or Gunstock HVAC. Also, would like feedback from folks who have experience with either of the Bosch or Samsung units described above.

Are you installing mini splits or a unit that plugs into your ductwork?

Post Steve from Gunstock HVAC

We had Steve from Gunstock HVAC install two heat pumps (Samsung) each with 2 zones to replace multiple furnaces. Steve ran the analysis to determine what the loads are and right size the systems. The installation was very clean and the pricing very fair.

Overall, the Samsung systems work well. The only nit is that thermostats require an additional module for WiFi connectivity.

Steve at Gunstock HVAC did our system, he was a fair price, very responsive, excellent to work with and overall a really nice guy.

We have 2 Samsung outdoor units feeding a combination of 8 wall mount and ducted zones in a large home. He also installed our LP boiler, baseboard heating in the lower level, 2 air exchanger units (we have spray foam), all gas work and our FHW tank. Pretty large project. Ours is set up to cut over at a preset temp to feed FHW to the ducted air handlers turning them into a hydro heat of sorts.

Everything works great. My only complaint with the Samsungs (and it may be all of them) is that the "auto" feature doesn't really work well. All zones tied to each condenser need to be in the same mode (heat vs cool) or off otherwise it can throw errors at which point you need to turn them all off to reset. The 3 phase systems don't do this, but these are more commercial based.

Even with last years cold stretch and being in a very open/exposed area our system works great.

Smart way to do it Les. My son just put in 3 Mitsubishi mini splits plus a Mitsubishi air handler for his upstairs bedrooms. The system works well. They are hyper heat units, backed with propane baseboard. He runs them to about 30F where he shuts them down and lets the propane take over. The superheat units will work down to very low temps, but become more energy inefficient as they do. He's figured the point where to switch over and does it automatically.

I don't have a contractor because he had a lot of trouble with the guy he used. The guy is not local to the lakes and has been working to fix the issues, but the issues should not have happened in the first place. The contractor is not any of the companies mentioned so far in this thread.

I've used Laconia Residential for Heating 'Gas' furnace and Porter HVAC for A/C,
and highly recommend !

Both companies are excellent for Service and stand behind their products.

Callahan out of Center Harbor also uses Bosch in these types of situations. Give them a call
