Default Earthquake

We didn't make it up the lake this weekend, sheer lazyness mostly, and now I hear there was an earthquake we missed. Anyone feel anything? No damage I hope! Just curious to hear re-actions.

My wife and I slept right through it, and the dogs never made a peep.

Talking Wasn't Me!

No damage, but I felt an all-over, and uncomfortable, "jostling-moment" just as I had put my head down on a pillow.

Actually very glad to hear this was an earthquake!

I got up around 11:45 and my son asked me if I had heard/felt something around 11:30. I did not as I was fast asleep but he said he heard what he thought was a motorcycle slowly rumbling by, but there was none. Shortly after he said people he was talking with on facebook felt/heard something too. Then, he saw the news flash on TV. BTW, we are in Merideth.

Default Didn't feel it...

...but I heard it. It sounded like a heavy truck running over the bumps in my road in front of the house, except there was no traffic. Just a boomp boomp boomp and it was done.

I was working when it happened. It only lasted about 5-7 seconds. It felt like a big logging truck was going by the house - only, there wasn't one. Our home is right on a main road so I'm used to traffic noise. It was disarming when I realized there was no traffic.

Just before it happened our dog started barking this low bark - he's a corgi and they have different sounds they make; I'd never head that one before. I assumed it was for something outside; I didn't connect the two incidents until later on... Our cats had also been knocking around the house but all animals got real quiet after that...

Funny thing is that folks on Facebook went nutty over it. Friends in Laconia, Barnstead, and Gilford were all updating their statuses about it. A techie friend recommended this site: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...e00001198.html

I tried to convince my wife that the "earth moved" but she never buys that whenever I try it; now I have proof!!

Default Wolfeboro Falling Map

I did hear something like a large bang. In the morning, I found a framed map of Winnie that was hung on the wall on the floor.
It was about 6 feet away(sideways) from where it was hung and the hanging pins were still on the wall.

Default Felt in on Rattlesnake Island

Well, now I know what it was We were on the Island, and I was sitting at the computer at around 11:30 (probably reading the forum!), and felt a "vibration" (minor shaking) which lasted (what seemed like a long time) around 5 seconds.

Went outside to listen - nothing - silence. Forgot about it until seeing this post. I've felt other quakes like that at home as well. They occur every so often, but it has been a number of years since I can remember such a quake.

If there had been a train track or road nearby, I would best describe the effect as similar to a very heavy train going by, or a series of lumber trucks rumbling by the house..... but of course, no roads or train tracks on the Island (at least THIS island - Rattlesnake).

Regards,

Steve

Talking Too Funny!

We mistook the earthquake for acorns falling! A ton of Mother Nature's little missiles pelted the camp right at that time.

Anyone else notice the bumper crop of acorns this year? I have to wear a helmet just to get the mail! Started in earnest 2 weeks ago, and hasn't let up at all. I can't remember a year like this.
