Default Lake temp? ICE? Warm weather? Derby?

I currently live in Colorado but grew up in Boston and Meredith. I have been doing the derby since I was around 10 years old. I can rembember winters where there was close to 3 feet of ice and literally a road of cars running down the center of meredith bay. What is going on? Two years ago was ok but there was hardly any one else out in the bay (halfway between meredith and weirs.) Last year was awful and I had to miss it because I flew back for the week but it got pushed back so I had to fly back home. And ther was only 6" of ice!!! I have been paying attention to the cold, or lack there of, out there this year and it seems that the temps are way above normal. I wanted to get some input from you all who are out there. From what I remember the lake would freeze over right around new years or just after. Seems the December temps are just to warm for that. Anyone know what the temp of the lake is? I look forward to this every year and was pissed about last year. Already bought my JetBlue flights to for my brother, girlfriend and I.

Hey Boulder, I am in the same boat as you for the most part. I drive up from NC every year since I moved here in 2001 from Mass. I've been attending the derby ever since I was in elementary school. I also remember 2 feet of ice, if not more. This year I am taking 3 weeks off of work and incorporated the weekend after the official derby weekend into my vacation incase it gets postponed again like last year. It needs to get cold and I mean NOW!! A good solid week of daily hi's in the 20's will lock up most of the lake and give it a good start, but that needs to happen soon. Let's pray for cold weather. I would like snow too, but would rather have ice first. Please don't post boating comments here, your season is over, let ours begin
