XC Skiing at the Lake
Can't wait to spend a day at the lake next week to do some XC skiing. Last year, I had a great time skiing in Winter Harbor. This year, I'd like to go all the way around Rattlesnake. Does anyone know a good place to park and start from shore?
Also, any good on-shore routes with views of the lake (as opposed to trails in the woods)? Lastly, for future trips with the family, are there any cleared skating areas? Thanks! Russtic |

Perhaps Ames Farm on rte 11 would be a good place to park. Check with them Ph 603-293-4321. I'm not sure that you can park at other areas like the end of Rollins Road off Rte 11 or Minge Cove Marina. West Alton Marina is closed during the winter, and they told us in the New Years letter that if we needed to get in to the boat area during the winter, we would have to call and make an appointment. Has to do with security and insurance.
Not aware of any trails on the Alton Side of the lake that would keep good views of the lake. Depending on your level of expertise, Locke Hill Trails in Gilford, across from the scenic view on Rte 11 has an nice loop that takes you up to the top of Lockes Hill, and then down over the front side with some nice views across the broads. Snowshoed it, but certainly was over my basic level of expertise of xc skiing. ( snow plow turns are my level of exp. here).

cross country skiing
Is there anywhere around Meredith where I can do some "easy" cross country skiing?
l'll probably stay at one of the Inns, and bring my own equipment. |

Didn't find any trails in Meredith, but here are a couple links for the Lakes Region.
