Default New Kid on the Block.

Greetings all. I just wanted to thank you for adding me to this site. I have been watching your discussions for awhile now and and enjoy the lively and informative dialog about a place dear to my heart. When I was a boy and young man with his new family, I spent many summers on Alton Bay. My parents, at different times, owned three different cottages. I currently live in Ohio but, after 23 years in the Army and 13 years as a teacher, my wife and I looking to move back home sometime this year. We will most likely have a few questions along the way and look forward to watching your discussions and pictures to help bring us back up to speed. Again, thanks!

Marty

Welcome aboard, Marty. You'll be able to obtain answers (and opinions, of course!) on this site for pretty much any Winnipesaukee-related question you may have.

As was the case with your family, mine started vacationing on the lake when I was a boy (teenager, in my case), and now my wife (forum name "Quilt Lady") and I are happily retired on the lake in West Alton.

Feel free to ask your questions here, and send me a PM directly if you like.

By the way, thanks for your 23 years of service in the Army!

The love of the Lakes Region is a part of us. So many of my friends and myself have been enjoying the lake our entire lives. I have friends who have unfortunately lost their husbands. They are still here alone and enjoying it. I also have lifetime lake friends that have married and their spouses just do not enjoy the lake as much as they do. Of course this isn't always the case. I belong to a women's organization and many of the women who move up here full time feel very lonely and isolated when the summer ends. They miss all the shopping and having everything right down the road. The winters seen longer as I get older, but I break it up with trips to Florida. I absolutely love the lake and the woods. What a wonderful place to live. I feel so lucky to be here each and every day.
Enjoy your move to the lake!

Whirlwind visit!
Been a great (albeit wet) day at the Bay. We drove out in 16 hours yesterday, hauling a 6/12 uhaul. Today, rented a storage unit and viewed several houses. Spent some time with my folks, attended a community dinner, then checked out the wolfeboro playhouse... Whew. Tomorrow, after a quick breakfast at the Alton Diner, back on the road to ohio (sans trailer).... It's another step!

Congrats on "one more step" closer to your goal.

16 hrs while pulling a trailer isn't bad. We know the road well as my wife is from the Akron area

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your service. As one that was lucky enough to grow up on the lakes (lived on Opechee, Winnisquam and Winnipesaukee over the years) it's always nice to see some one coming back.

Default Congratulations and please share what you find out

Congratulations on your impending move to the Lakes Region. I'm living in MA but looking to move to retire there (hopefully pre-retire if I can figure everything out). Anything you can share relative to what you learn on pricing in the various towns would be appreciated. Have not looked too closely yet but I'm under the impression Alton may be best value in the area.
