Question Inserting Pictures Into Threads

If I want to insert a photo into a post that is on another website, is it all right to right click and copy the location and bring it here to Winnipesaukee.com? Would I be causing any trouble for the other website? Should I copying the photo then putting it in a private album of mine, so it will be from our own website?

Thanks!

RG

Linking to an image is preferable to saving it and uploading it to this site. As long as you properly credit the source usually no one minds although it could technically be a copyright violation if you don't have permission.

There is the "fair use" aspect of copyright law that allows for the use of pictures or quotes for "nonprofit educational purposes". I think that would cover your history threads.

Here's what the Copyright Office says:

Quote:
The safest course is always to get permission from the copyright owner before using copyrighted material.

When it is impracticable to obtain permission, use of copyrighted material should be avoided unless the doctrine of “fair use” would clearly apply to the situation.
