Plumber/Electrician
Hi,
My wife and I just purchased a cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee. The propane hot water heater needs replacement. I'd like to convert to an electric "on demand" hot water heater. Does anyone recommend a Plumber who can convert the propane as well as perform any electrical work required? Thanks Tank |

Minuteman Plumbing
Hi,
Call Phil at Minuteman Plumbing in Meredith 279-3323. He helped us with a major winterization of a 1935 cottage. We have a Baxi propane hot water heating system with on-demand hot water. No regrets, it has been a fantastic system. Our electrician was Mike Vasco of Vasco Electric. I think that he's from Plymouth. Merry Christmas |

Plumber/Electrician
I'll second Phil at Minuteman. For the electrical call John Woodaman at JW Electric in Meredith -279- 6386. They both did great work as sub contractors on a new house we built last year.

Home Energy Products
in Belmont has excellent reputation in installation and maintenance of efficient gas products. They carry excellent products. If you should do a search on this forum on Home Energy, you will see excellent reviews. I would give them a call. The will do both plumbing and electrical work.

What possessed you to choose an electric on demand water heater. They do exist. But special wiring is required. And few if any know how to fix them. |

If you already have propane...
then why not go with a propane on demand.
As with a previous poster, just wondering?

The reason for going from propane to electric is safety concern. The current HWH had CO2 gas leaking into the cottage upon home inspection. I will consult with contractors that have been recommended and proceed... Thanks again... Happy New year! Tank |

Plumber/electrician
I'll third minuteman and JW! I've used them for a number of projects that weren't straight forward.

No specific recommendations on a contractor which was your original question, however I'd also suggest at least considering an on demand propane heater as others have mentioned.
If properly installed and vented, these newer products are equipped with many safety devices that your existing heater would not have and typically have a sealed combustion chamber that uses outdoor air and a special condensing heat exchanger to get all the energy out of the exhaust gasses. You already have the fuel supply in place to the existing heater; to get the equivalent output in an electric heater might require a 40 or 50 amp / 230 volt feeder from the breaker panel. Also, the plumber would be able to most if not all the work on the propane version himself. It wouldn't hurt to get a propane vs. electric quote and decide from there. Good luck!

Propane vs Electric
Another possible consideration would be a backup generator (if you have or will have one), would certainly appreciate propane as the energy source for your hot water.
