Default Advice on swimming the lake

Does anybody have experience swimming the lake? I intend to swim from Wolfeboro to Center Harbor (17 miles) this July and would appreciate any advice from anybody with first-hand experience. Such as, route to take, areas to avoid, how to take in enough nourishment, how to avoid drowning (just kidding) etc.
Thanks

There was a guy who swam from Alton to Meredith last year. I know he left early in the am and had a boat with him at all times...

Well good luck to you -- is there some special reason for this or simply "for doing it"?

Things to consider -

- if you are planning on making this trip on a week-end, you chose perhaps the most difficult path (the broads) -- not so bad during a week day (provided the wind doesn't whip up)

- I would hope you plan on having at least one escort boat

- I would also notify Marine Patrol of your intentions, as a courtesy --

Go early on a nice, calm, mid week day.

Default Swimming the Lake

Might you consider swimming from Center Harbor to Wolfeboro ? Swimming in this direction would be sort of "down hill", with the usual prevailing wind mostly at your back. There was quite a bit of traffic on this topic last year, and it would probably be a good idea to read up on all the suggestions people had. Safety is your number one concern, so be prepared with an escort boat, maybe several, and some attendants that you would trust your life to because that is exactly what you will be doing. I wish you the very best of luck.
