The movie that came out on dvd recently, 'The Conjuring' was quit good. Almost made me a believer. Then the movie ended, the lights got turned back on and the reality of.... well reality, crept back in.

As they say , desperate times call for desperate measures...If business sucks then what better way to get people into your store than make up some crazy story...I bet it works though:ro lleye2:

I hope the store doesn't have a bogeyman in it also...I don't mind Ghosts, but I'm really afraid of the bogeyman.

When I was a kid I was always told if I wasn't good then the bogeyman would get me.

My brother is a ghost hunter. He does it for fun and makes no money. He does spend a lot of his own money and time.

Default I don't know any ghosts, but I do know a ghost-hunter..

I've never seen a ghost or witnessed anything paranormal, but that doesn't mean they couldn't exist. I guess I won't know until I'm on the other side of the grass....

I do know a (former) ghost-hunter, however. My ne'er-do-well 20-something nephew. He dropped out of high school, got married and divorced, and can't hold a job. He and his pals decided to pool what little money they had and become "ghost-hunters", as they were going to "make a fortune". They are back to being unemployed, smoking weed, and playing video games all day.

Are we really to believe that someone who can't hold a job slinging burgers and fries has the ability to communicate with and capture supernatural-beings?

Seems to me Ellacoya Gen Store has found a new way to attract customers!

Do I believe in ghosts and ghost hunters? NO! Do I believe in spiritual energy? Absolutely! I have personally had and have heard of too many experiences not too. Don't know what was trying to be communicated with the breaking of a cake glass. Maybe it was the spirits birth or rebirth day and they wanted to be remembered! Then again, maybe it was a small earthquake!

For some reason people that believe in ghosts, psychics, bigfoot, magnets, crystals or anything supernatural think that science doesn’t apply to them or their claim. Even though science explains pretty much everything in the universe. Too many ignore this little fact.

I thought I remembered years ago that the old restaurant next door (now closed) was supposed to be haunted. Any one else here that years ago?

Default This is the type of Ghost to have

The Nutmeg Inn

Meredith, NH

Built in 1763, the inn is haunted by a ghost the staff have nicknamed Charlie. The inn is believed to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad and also a boardinghouse that once expelled two students for being Hitler Youths. Witnesses have described cold spots, apparitions turning up in photographs, and poltergeist pranks, but Charlie is known for being a kind and helpful ghost. In one case, the owners wanted to install electrical outlets in the Teaberry room, but found that it would be too expensive. They closed the room for the winter season and when they opened it again, they found an outlet had been installed right where they wanted it. The electricians they had contacted denied having put in the outlet, and the inn never received a bill for the service. Charlie is also believed to be responsible for helping a carpenter with the wood paneling in the entryway and coaxing flowers that had never bloomed before to bloom the day the new owners purchased the inn.

I have to preface this with "I don't believe in ghosts", but I recall a time when I wasn't so sure. My wife and I were just married and living in a gorgeous old home near the seacoast. During the few years we lived there I had this recurring nightmare of a "ghost" dragging my wife out of bed and into the kitchen, where she and I tried to fight it off. Pretty disturbing for both of us; I would wake up screaming every time.

Well, anyway, we moved out of that house and I never had it happen again.

Where's Sigmund Freud when you need him? He could explain it.

We bought our current house in Nashua in 2006, bought from an elderly woman who's husband had died previously. After she sold it, she went to live in a nursing home in upstate NY to be closer to her daughter.
My wife swears that she saw, felt, or otherwise somehow encountered the old gentleman on several occasions. Being skeptical, i brushed it off.
Some time later, we heard that the woman had died.
Shortly after that, our 5 year old grandson was staying over for the weekend. My office is in the 3rd bedroom where I highly suspect the old gentleman died. I say this because we asked several neighbors where he had died and they just evaded the question, maybe to not spook us about the death. Neither my wife or I mentioned what she had seen.
Anyways, one night, our grandson came to us and told us that there was a man, all dressed in gray sitting in the chair we had in the corner of that 3rd bedroom. The man didn't do anything, just sat there. Apparently it didn't scare our grandson, he didn't seem to make a big deal about it. Also note that neither my wife or I ever mentioned anything about the old gentleman to any of our kids or grandkids.
So, now, he has "appeared" to my wife and grandson, I have never had an encounter.
It's your choice whether or not you choose to believe any of this, but I swear, it's absolutely true,
So here's what I did. One night when i was alone, I went into that office and addressed the gentleman by his name, not knowing if he would "appear" or even hear me. I informed him that his wife had passed in upstate NY and that he could now join her. I got no response or any indication of a response, but I can tell you that from that day forward, nobody has seen the old gentleman in our home. I have to admit, at the time, I really felt kind of weird addressing him in an empty room of our empty house. We believe he is gone.
I have no explanation for what happened. Was his spirit trapped in that room waiting to join his wife? I really don't know.

It's hard to believe something that seems impossible and that you've never experienced. I have a close friend that did witness some type of apparition in an old house that he and his wife were in checking out for possible purchase. Scared him to death; it was the end of that and they never went back. I honestly believe he saw something; just enough for me to hope it never happens to me.

We rented a place in Meredith a number of years ago, and it was the first night staying there.... Something woke me up in the middle of the night, and I looked out of the bedroom door into the hallway and saw a blueish colored woman standing there...

...didn't think much of it actually, and went back to sleep. Had forgotten about the whole thing until my - at the time 8 year old - son came out and said "Daddy, did you see that person last night?". I said "what did you see", and my son reported the exact same blueish lady. I told him I saw it too, and not too worry - she's not going to bother anything.

Didn't see her again after that, but was an interesting experience.

I have had 3 encounters over the past 5 years in our cottage with only my wife knowing about them. either last year or the year before my cousins visiting from FL, who did not know anything about the situation, starting saying how we were so loud in the living room one morning when my wife had to leave for work that we woke her up one morning, saying we went on for about 15-20 minutes and were having a little argument. and I said to her, She just kissed me good bye and left right out the door in under 2 minutes, and that was in our bedroom.
its gets better but I like for people to experience for themselves so I will not not share more, prior to this, I was not a believer

I've had several encounters also as far back as 1965, all but one were of the poltergiest spirit. One of my favorite stories, Myself and a roomate were renting a place for a short 3 month period where we were told upfront that it had a ghost inhabitant, we were not too concerned at first but than this ghost or poltergiest was very active. Lights on and off, shades up and down and stereo going on in the middle of the night type stuff and whenever things would happen a musty odor often would be present. Our friends would often be visiting when these things occured.
One night I was home alone and leaving to visit a friend, as I left I turned out the lights on the way out except the light at the bottom of the stairs. I got to my vehicle and realized I forgot my keys on my dresser, so I headed back up stairs and through the livingroom and into the kitchen in the dark, I reached up and grab the string for the light in the center of the kitchen ceiling and at the same time I pulled the string I felt myself bump into a person head-on, but as the light went on, no one was there. That instant turned me into a believer of a paranormal existance.

Good reading on the subject. http://thelaker.com/haunted-places-in-the-lakes-region

Started by James Randi (The Amazing Randi) in 1964. To date nobody has won the money. There's a very good reason for that.

That challenge is related to people that believe they have paranormal powers and does not relate at all to a chance encounter with a spirit.

Not one of the stories presented so far have included the statement of being able to create the scene over again.

I did enjoy the reading of that site and this post should not be taken as a statement of belief in one direction or another.

I must say this is tuff to say out loud and send off into cyberspace, but......
We are just approaching 6yrs of owning our place in Suissevale. Right after closing on the house I stayed there alone to do some cleaning. That night while going through stuff to get rid of in the basement, I swore I could hear foot steps walking around upstairs. I went up looked around and found nothing, just kept it to myself.
Fast forward a month or two, I was there with my son who was 4 at the time. He was 'helping' me fix some damaged sheetrock downstairs. After putting him to bed, and he fell asleep, I went back down stairs. Again I heard foot steps walking around upstairs. I went to check on him a few times and he was sound asleep, nothing moved or noticeable.
Our next trip was with the whole family so we played outside all day and my wife would help me at night, after the kids were asleep, she would help spread compound, ect.. We both could hear noise like running around upstairs from one end of the house to the other. No voices, sounds, or movement was noticed. We went upstairs and never heard any sounds. We would go back down stairs and eventually hear the sounds of steps again.
I have looked for mechanical or other possibilities that would create some sort of sound like that and could never find a thing. Off the top of my head, I think we have only heard this at night. When downstairs we are active, and I have not been alone thinking I'm hearing things. We have never noticed movement of anything in the house, only the thumping sounds which sound like they travel around above us on the first floor.....who knows..., just character to the house, we love our time at the lake.

Not that it really matters but his prize absolutely does include ghosts and paranormal 'events'.

"At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event."

With all the new technology since 1964 this should be easy.

http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/...plication.html

Like I said, good reading on that site. My statement came from reading the actual application. The "event" is in relation to a persons perceived ability to recreate a paranormal or supernatural event.

I understand, where you are coming from, but there is nothing on that site that discredits the above video. You would need to claim that you can recreate that exact event while the testing group and media were present in order to claim the prize.

If they stated that "when this bell rings, "X" happens" than that would be a case for that organization.

Yes, everyone......I joined just to respond on this thread!

I worked for two years at Onions Pub and Restaurant, located in the Tilton Inn. Even during the previous ownership, many had said the building was haunted. There are Ghost Hunter episodes on YouTube, and there have been many investigations at the Inn.

The locals claim a young girl that perished in a fire occupies the property. Local lore suggests that Laura shows signs to protect others. This explanation could support one of the four experiences that I had at the Inn.

Only a few weeks into my employment, while working at the bar I had four "gentlemen" customers, who were attending a conference in the area. They were becoming increasingly rude, eventually asking if I would deliver drinks to their hotel rooms. Suddenly, directly in front of the most obnoxious one, a red wine glass ran along the glass rack rails and crashed to the floor. First, the glass rack was very solid, and could not be disturbed with vibration. Second, the glass had to travel over one foot horizontally before dropping, to avoid the sink and speed rail below. The incident shocked the men, who immediately paid their tab and left.

There were other instances, including seeing a very old, very thin man near the entrance to the bar, who disappeared after I turned a corner. I had always been one who "felt" a presence, and possibly being open to a belief provides the opportunity to experience an event. Just some food for thought!

Let me just note that I never felt uncomfortable at the property, even when I locked up with no one else in the building.

Great stories from everyone....I hope you enjoy mine!

My husband and I stayed at the inn one Halloween weekend. We were hoping we would feel a presence of some kind, but unfortunately nothing happen. I also worked at the Corner House Inn in Sandwich. A man named Clarence died there many many years ago. One time I put the wine tap on and when I looked back it was shut off ( nobody else was around). Everyone said it was probably Clarence. Another time the owner was varnishing a floor. He was the only one one in the building. He left for lunch. When he came back the floor was covered with material ( like specks of cotton). He felt that Clarence had likely caused the problem. There is no denying- things can happen without explanation

I watched the video and I must say that I can not see the person to the left that used compressed air to blow the glass off the counter.

If that were the case, the paper and other light objects that are clearly on the counter as well would have also been blown off along with the glass cover.

Compressed air through a long tube can have a very narrow focus. And obviously things can be taped or glued down.

Does anybody really believe you can't fake a video? Seriously? They fake huge complex crop circles overnight.

Well, if it is fake, several people would have to be involved and they would all by lying.

I do not think that Heidi has any reason to make something up, and Steve has always seemed like a stand-up kind of guy to me.

There *are* many things that happen which cannot be explained by conventional science, but to debunk these as either delusions, fakes or otherwise the product of sheer stupidity or ignorance is ignorance itself.

Sure, there are fakes out there and because there are fakes, this means that all such incidents are fake?

My younger brother was a pen pal to a local serviceman who was in Vietnam back in the 60s. One day my mother saw him (the serviceman) standing in our kitchen and actually told me about it at the time. She said, "you know, I just saw R. F. Stevens standing in the kitchen. I wonder what it means." About a week later, we read in the paper that the guy had been killed. So, either my mother made it up, or I am making it up, or it really happened.

I don't lie, and my mother would have no reason to make such a thing up...

This event cannot be explained by any conventional science that I know about.

It is not a matter of "belief" creating the experience because people want it to be "real", it is a matter of random factual events happening to real people who then report what happened.

If this incident at the store had not been captured on video, would anyone believe Heidi? I'm sure the skeptics would claim she was making it up, in the absence of any evidence. Now, in this case there is evidence, and now the evidence is faked AND Heidi is making it up too? Very unlikely! Just because it can't be explained doesn't mean it didn't happen just the way it was reported and filmed A tube or any sort of air device would be completely obvious. The amount of force required to move something made from glass is fairly substantial, and since the top was round, the air would be deflected and there would be evidence of this as other objects would have moved or otherwise been disturbed. Science works both ways!!!

IMVHO.....
I never have been or ever will be preacher, but I do believe in some form of spiritual energy. I can't say I believe in ghosts or could begin to, or care to, try to explain any of this. I see the universe is full of energy, our world is full of energy, each and every one of us functions on energy. When we pass on, something becomes of that energy, it goes somewhere, somehow, someway, shape or form.
My father passed nine months ago, and the happenings or events that occurred immediately thereafter through the following days were unexplainable to bizarre to simply unbelievable if you weren't there. For the respect of my family and those who choose to think with open minds, I won't share a word of our experiences, as those who feel that anyone who thinks differently than they do, can only disrespect everyone to get their words across.

As I once heard, but can't quite recall where I heard it,....
"There are none so blind as those that can not see."
...just saying.

If you put a glass on a table or on a bar top, on a little puddle of liquid, it can move. Try it at home, it happens. The glass can move on its own. No compressed air or human interaction needed.

Am I a believer in ghosts or spirits? Maybe. I have known plenty of people who have experienced things, but have never experienced anything myself.

The only thing I have experienced was with a Ouija board. Let me just say that the things I saw could NOT have been done/faked by a human. No way. Ghost/spirit? I don't know. All I know is that you wouldn't believe me if I told you. And I wouldn't believe me either if I hadn't seen it happen.

Until, I can see data that without a doubt proves all these stories (beyond just this thread) could not possibly happen, I am going to keep an open mind.

My grandfather used to tell me that if you close your mind on one idea, you will likely block out many other great experiences in your life.

Choosing to close your mind on a fun topic or idea like this, is like forgetting that it is fun to dance in the kitchen when you are making dinner with your wife and kids.

It's OK to have convictions, but why would you want to deprive yourself of those great imaginative and carefree thoughts of your youth, the "what if" moments.

To much in everyday life demands black and white, take your shoes off and play in the grey, nobody will laugh at you, promise!

Starting 50 years ago the James Randi Educational Foundation has offered 1 Million Dollars to anyone that can prove the existence of paranormal phenomenon. They define paranormal as "not scientifically explainable". Thousands of people have tried to get the Million that is held in trust, but none have been able to prove the existence of ANY paranormal activity.

Yet the paranormal "industry" rakes in tens of billions of dollars each year.

Seriously, has anyone else even read the application for that Million Dollar Prize!

This is the first sentence (the quotation marks are mine):

The JREF will pay US$1,000,000 (One Million US Dollars) ("The Prize") to any person who demonstrates any psychic, supernatural, or paranormal "ability" under satisfactory observation.

a·bil·i·ty [uh-bil-i-tee] Show IPA
noun, plural a·bil·i·ties.
1. power or capacity to do or act physically, mentally, legally, morally, financially, etc.
2. competence in an activity or occupation because of one's skill, training, or other qualification: the ability to sing well.
3. abilities, talents; special skills or aptitudes: Composing music is beyond his abilities.

Feeling as though you have seen or felt a ghost, is not a claim of ability.

After knowing Steve Buzzotta since 2004, I doubt highly that he would be involved in a hoax. I don't know any of the employees but from an ownership standpoint- no way.

Not saying that I believe or not in this incident or the paranormal in general, but I have seen some strange things over the years myself. Having grown up in an 1800's house in Stratham that once served as slave quarters and living by an apple orchard where someone once hung themselves there were certainly some unexplained occurrences from my childhood. A house down the road was known to be haunted as well.

There are many reasons why someone may feel they have seen a ghost; too much coffee, mental episode, ingesting a mind altering substance, lack of sleep etc.

Almost all of those reasons create a relaxation of your brains mental blocks, the same mental blocks that keep "events" it does not recognize from entering your thought process or visual cortex.

Personally I would not trust a video or audio recording of anything related to this subject (most subjects actually).

Always have and still are in the no spirit camp but I did have the same experience as post 43. In my cellar of my then first 650 sq/ft house and heard definite footsteps over my head. Went upstairs and nothing. Back down and the same thing again. Totally freaked out when back upstairs and nothing there and doors still locked. Still hasn't swayed me but......freaky.

From "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

“You don’t believe in me,” observed the Ghost.

“I don’t,” said Scrooge.

“What evidence would you have of my reality beyond that of your senses?”

“I don’t know,” said Scrooge.

“Why do you doubt your senses?”

“Because,” said Scrooge, “a little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them cheats. You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!”

Really,...WHAT? Now the thread is going to be taken to a level where our intellectual thinking is influenced by a Christmas Carol? I'm sorry this isn't meant to be a 'directed' response , but I can't stop shaking my head , some of the negative 'digs' at the topic here are quite juvenile.

Perhaps I should apologize. I think many people take posting on this forum more seriously than I do. The Dickens quote was supposed to be a little fun. Not an argument.

Well, actually to stay on point, I always imagined the house where Trotwood's second wife grew up looked somewhat like the Ellacoya Barn and Grill.

My wife says that they can't harm you. Her theory is that they are in a separate parallel dimension so while you can see and hear them, they can't physically interact with the living. Well if I saw Lizzie coming at me with raised ax, I would duck and run; theory or not.

Correct. In the last 50 years, the people who have "applied" for the prize have not met the winning criteria as set forth by the foundation offering the bounty.

This is only slightly more elegant than "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 2, if you guess it I will give you $1,000,000". Go ahead, guess, I'll tell you if you won.

I have friends in the "skeptic" community. Through them I see lots of Facebook discussions and other things. A few of them are neutral-minded people, many are simply closed-minded cynics. Their groups go through all kinds of drama and accusations and finger-pointing amongst themselves. They despise religion, but then practically worship guys like Randi. Many of the skeptics have proven little or nothing, they just claim that everything must have a scientific explanation, even if they can't offer a clear and obvious answer to things like the video that started this discussion. As others have pointed out, even when there is evidence, that evidence is then called into question if it's not validated and verified first-hand by a "skeptic".

I don't really know or care about the details behind this video, it doesn't affect me.

I can't prove unknown forces exist. You can't *prove* they don't. Enjoy your beliefs, let others enjoy theirs.

Default Another experience

This was 32 years ago shortly after my (then) future wife and I moved into our first apartment, a one room effeciency. The room was 24 X 24 feet with a portable divider (like in offices) seperating the sleeping area from the rest of the room. Anyways I returned home from work and met a friend outside and invited him in, we walked in and I tossed my keys on the dining table like always. My wife was sitting on the couch and my friend was standing by the door talking to her while I went to the fridge to get a couple beers. I walked back and noticed my keys were not on the table and asked where they were and they insisted they did not touch them. We searched that room from top to bottom then and several times after because those were my car keys, house keys and work keys, did not find and had to make duplicates and change some locks, a real pain.
Oh, did I mention there was a pretty good sized cemetery behind this house. Well about a month later on a nice spring day we(the same three) were walking through the cemetery as we sometimes did, and I happen to look a couple of rows over and notice something on top of a gravestone, and as I got nearer I realized it was my keys sitting there. On top of a marker that belonged to a dead relative on my wifes side, talk about goosebumps.
I don't go looking for this stuff but it seems to find me anyways, so yes I believe.

BI, please don't apologize, no one needs to apologize. The web is working its magic that keeps us all coming back. Your post was my example, NOT directed to make an argument, I hate arguing. Don't stop posting, don't change your humor, don't change a thing. I visit here, car sites, and aviation sites for fun and shared interests. They all have amazing information and they all seem to attract some who have no interest in the threads topics, they only enjoy derailing them. I will say Winni is one of my favorites, the wisdom, fun and the humor are welcomed by all,(sorry to speak for everyone there) the belittling and pokes I could do with out.
Sorry to have gone off track.

I feel there is a whole lot more going on that we can't comprehend, can't see, can't imagine, can't prove, ect.... Sounds insane, there 's just to many things that make me say,"Hmm".
'can't physically interact'...my mother has a nonviolent 'story', 'encounter', call it what you will, that says otherwise.

Default Pressure from cooling cups?

I just read the baysider article, and it said there were warm peanut butter cups under the lid that had just cooled. Is it possible that this caused some type of pressure build-up, that then "popped" the lid upward? They said the "ghosthunters" tried some experiments, but was recreating this situation one of them?

In the video, the lid didn't appear to go up - it mostly went sideways (for quite a long distance) before it reached the edge of the counter.

A few have mentioned that they had seen images of sorts. Has anyone ever witnessed an animal figure or shape? Im not sure why this question came to mind, it just seems if a figure is seen its always in human form. I don't want to get all the haters in a tizzy, just putting it out there.

I know right!! The way most people love their dogs you'd think you would hear of that after their gone. I know I had one I really miss like hell, the whole family does. Not sure if it would make me glad or sad to see him come to think of it...I'm one walking the line of not knowing what to believe, don't necessarily believe in these things but still wonder.

But it had to go up enough to clear the cupcakes that were under it. They said those were not touched.

Yes. One summer we rented a house on the Ct. shore at Point O'Woods. When we arrived on that hot summer day in mid July I went into the master bedroom and there was a phone/ clock on the desk by the window with the date and time on it. It said "January 2" and an early morning time. That is the date and time when my son died just a few years before. During the week I kept seeing a cat run by out of the corner of my eye. I would turn quickly to see and of course there was no cat there. I didn't tell my husband about it until weeks afterwards and then he told me that he saw it too. And he is not inclined to believe experiences like that. So.....keep an open mind. It is folly to think that we know and understand everything in the universe.
