Ragged Island update
From late summer LRCT Legacy:
http://www.lrct.org/pdfs/LRCTsummer09.pdf "In mid-2006 LRCT fulfilled a significant and long-held goal when it became the owner of Ragged and Little Ragged Islands in Lake Winnipesaukee. With forests, wetlands, and beaches, this property is among the most scenic spots on the lake, providing a quiet refuge for boaters and paddlers. We are pleased to announce that, assuming the fulfillment of outstanding pledges, the campaign for acquisition funds for Ragged and Little Ragged Islands has been completed. Many thanks to those who have generously supported this conservation project and to LRCT Trustee Jack Merselis and Advisor (and former Trustee) Dick Spaulding for their dedication to the success of the campaign. Since LRCT’s acquisition of the property, stewardship has been a high priority, and we are fortunate to have an energetic and talented volunteer team led by Property Adopters Muriel and Mike Robinette. Key accomplishments to date include reestablishment of a nature trail (with guides that can be borrowed from the kiosk near the dock), clean-up of the former main lodge building so that it can be used for volunteer and community group gatherings, such as Tuftonboro Islanders Association meetings, and removal of the deteriorated boathouse, opening up scenic shoreline and additional docking space. Future stewardship plans include further refurbishment of the main lodge building, repair to the dock that surrounded the boathouse, and removal of unneeded buildings to restore the island to a more natural appearance. Removal of or improvements to structures on an island can be challenging and costly, so if you are interested in assisting with the long–term stewardship of Ragged Island, or would like further information about the plans, please contact LRCT President Don Berry".
