The Mug went away a year ago if not longer.
This is a new venture

It's not open yet. Sign at front door still shows "coming soon" (as of yesterday, anyway).

Heard something about, it will be a breakfast and lunch place.

Mug by the Bay closed a while ago. The original Mug on Route 3 is still open.

As seen from Rt-3/25 in Centre Harbor, the original Mug has two large KENO-603 banners displayed outside for best viewing from passing car traffic. With drawings every 5 minutes, from 11:05 AM to !:00 AM, Keno probably deters more Mug restaurant goers than it attracts ..... one would think!

And,
Mug Sandwich Shop and Pizzeria in Moultonborough, existed prior to the Center Harbor, Mug By the Bay restaurant, on Rt.25; neither to be confused with parent Mug on 62 Daniel Webster Hwy, Center Harbor, Rt 3 (Meredith side).

It amazes me how the clock ticks off much quicker every year.
It seems like just a few years ago Y2K was going to blow up the internet.
Now it's going to turn 2020. Where did the time go, and my hair?

Default Gusto is now OPEN

I just called GUSTO, using the phone number on their business website (250-8002). After about 4 rings the phone picked up and it sounded like a recording (something like, "Hi, you have reached Gusto Italian Cafe…"), but it was actually a person saying those words (woman with very strong accent - Italian?). She said, "we (Gusto) finally opened ("finally" was her word) yesterday" (Dec 26th), and then told me their hours would be 6:30AM to 3:30PM. I won't get there for a week or so, but I'm sure someone else will post a review before then.

Stopped in today around 12:30 to see if I could get a menu to take home, but only menus were on display boards. Looks nice inside, a little different than when it was the Mug, but not a lot. Several tables were full and the woman with the Italian accent was looking harried, but very pleasant. Printed menus to be available soon. Will be back for sure to sample. Did not want to take pictures of the menu boards, but there appeared to be some breakfast items, sandwiches and pasta items available.

I am sitting at a table waiting for my loaded croissant. They opened but did not realize it was the holiday weekend so were not prepared for a rush. Easy to forgive them for that.

I am very excited about this place. Very pleasant people with an obvious good work ethic.

The croissant has arrived and I devoured it.

I can’t wait to come back. Lucky You Center Harbor.

Default Fantastico!!!!

We stopped into Gusto today for lunch. When we arrived a table of four and a table of two were folks we knew from town. They loved their food!

It was lunchtime and I ordered the a sandwich with arugula, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and olive oil drizzle on home made focaccia. I am happy to say it was the best sandwichI have had in 20 years here in the Lakes Region. I could eat that every day and smile.

The quiche today was spinach and came with a salad. The few folks that got that loved it.

The soup was minestrone but not as you know it. Flat egg noodles and a lovely broth. Fabulous.

The owner (sorry I don't recall her name) is from Florence Italy and a delightful woman. Yes she was a bit harried today as this is a new operation. We were told they ran out of food yesterday. Great to see the new place getting support.

The menu is limited but smart given the season. They have cappuccino and some pastries also.

I can see a regular visit to Gusto and wish them great luck!

Just curious, how did they not know it was a holiday weekend 2 days after Christmas?! I was in Conway Friday and pretty much the entire population of Massachusetts was in town... they won’t make it if they can’t even read a calendar! I’ve worked in restaurants for years and never heard that excuse before!

If I had a nickel for every time I thought an event was the next weekend or the one after, or that I had a few extra days before an event, I'd be a moderately wealthy man--and I don't have nearly the number of things to balance in my life as what it takes to open a new restaurant.

It sounds like this place is gonna be great and that the owners deserve local support--I LOVE that recipe.

I have not been there but imho there doesn’t seem to be much meat or cheese in that sandwich. You said it was great, so for those that want a little lighter fare, aka less protein and more carbs go for it.

Thumbs up A Review

We had lunch at Gusto Italian Cafe today.

We were happily greeted by Elena, chatted a bit and welcomed them to the area. We placed our order at the counter and took a table. Note that, for now at least, it is just Elena and Nick so orders are from the counter. While we were there, 5 other tables were occupied for lunch as well, a couple of which were return customers. After a reasonable wait, our sandwiches were delivered to our table by Nick.

We had paninis; Focaccia Caprese (tomatoes, mozzarella, greens) for my wife and Firenze (Prosciutto, Salami, Mozzarella, greens) for me. The bread is made there and is delicious. The ingredients appear to be high quality and both sandwiches were very good. A warning, if you like your sandwiches overstuffed with meat, that is not what they make. However, I found the amount of food a satisfying lunch and for $10 a sandwich and the high quality and great taste, I thought it was a very fair value. If you are a big eater, you might add soup.

We look forward to trying breakfast.

Gusto is a welcome addition to Center Harbor.

I made it back by today for my second visit. They’ve grown a lot in such a short period of time. The place was very busy and they had plenty of food options as well as prompt attentive service. Today I had a Stromboli which I was too anxious to eat to take a picture, and I also had the quiche. Each came with a small side salad.Total was $11 and change.

Went in last weekend on our way to skiing based on reviews in this thread, and it was awesome! Great breakfast sandwiches, and we are so excited that there's now a place in Center Harbor to grab a pastry and cappuccino. They will definitely be getting a lot of patronage from our family come summer.

The place was also completely packed. Granted it was a Sunday in MLK weekend, so the real question should be how busy they are midweek, but they're such a friendly pair and serving some great stuff Center Harbor was in need of, so hoping they stay around a long time.
