Default New versus Old GPS Unit

Hello all,

I'm new here to the forum.

We are looking to buy a chart-plotter and are fully aware that Bizer produces the best chart for the lake. However, the Bizer chart is limited to older production model units (For example, Garmin models produced before 2015).

I want to hear some opinions: is it worth buying an older/used unit to have the Bizer chart capability or is there more benefit in a brand new model unit with a non Bizer chart?

Best,
J

I have no experience with the Bizer chips (probably have 6 of their paper maps) but if you like Garmin I would think it would be difficult to beat a Garmin LakeVu Ultra HD set up.

I would go with the Navionics app... it can be used with a cell phone or tablet. Make sure the tablet has a gps chip installed... some do not. I use it on my Iphone and iPad mini... (the iPad Mini is cellular capable and has the GPS chip. I do not have a cell line connected to it)

It works AWESOME...

Default I vote...

...you go with a new unit. I would suggest having a rugged mount for it so you can be hands free in the roughest waves.
Bizer is a great map...I have at least 2 copies on board all the time, but...I never use them. Well not never, but rarely.
I also have both Navionics on GPS & phone and Lakemaster on Humminbird . Very happy with all.

New with Navionics charts. I believe that Navionics charts are (or were) based on Bizer data.
