Default Truck towing bob house falls through ice in Alton

A lot of bob houses coming off the ice in anticipation of warmer weather, be careful.

The ice fishing guys say there is a pressure ridge that forms there. I don't fish that area, idk.
Hard to believe after all the incidents last weekend, in 55 degree weather, you'd drive a truck out...
I pulled my house to shore sunday, sitting on the beach.

There was a pressure ridge there 3 weeks ago, it was about 2-3 high at the peak. The last week or two it had settled and was no longer recognizable. The weekend of the derby a 4 wheeler went in there towing a shack ( a story nobody heard of) Fish and Game marked the spot with a 2x4 piece of wood, that's it. Shame on them, if they had properly roped this off somehow this incident wouldn't have happened . When I fished there in the first week of February the crack was 6 inches wide and went across the whole Bay from the west side to 28A.

Your kidding right? You think it's Fish & Games responsibility to mark every place there is unsafe ice?? How about the genius who decided to take his 5000 lb truck on the ice?... No personal responsibility there whatsoever or what?? It is NOT Fish & Game's responsibility to save us from doing something stupid.

This is a good point that can be generalized to many of this winter's threads. One reason we love the lake is that she's a large and often mysterious thing. Too many people seem to forget that there's something just a bit(?) unnatural about trucks, snowmobiles and even airplanes treating her like pavement.

You have to remember anyone under the age of 60 has been taught since birth that nothing is their fault. Always seek out another to blame for your stupidity.

Not to mention the fact that from the story there were people in the truck and in the bed. Add another 1000 pounds or so.

That is a pretty broad statement and is not true.

Default people under 60...

Well, KPW, the statement may not be 100% true, but it certainly is aiming in the right direction. Today, the concept of personal responsibility is just about gone.

Amen! really tough to argue that. Accountability is word that is falling out of society.

Yeah, but isn't that the result of an incredibly litigious baby boomer generation?

Pfft, right, we did a great job, $20 trillion in debt, tinder boxes in the Middle East and other areas. Just a general mess. You folks ragging on the young ones apparently haven't been around many of them, or perhaps the ones you raised are making you feel that way. The snowflakes we see on tv raising hell and burning things are a small minority of the young people out there. I am filled with hope with these young kids, I just hope we haven't messed up so badly they can't fix what we broke.

Welcome to the forum. Give it a day or two and the topic will turn to bob houses on sale at Walmart and open tennis courts in Meredith

All I can say is that I welcome the warm weather and hope that the ice will be going out sooner rather than later.

Sadly this was another year of sketchy at best ice conditions, but rest assured so long as the lake freezes each year people will venture out on to it and a small number will manage to go through. Just the way it is.

As long as it remains a small number Darwin won't be too busy.

We could be arguing about speeed limits, or my personal favorite from years back -- what to do if your neighbor is stealing your firewood!!

I'm sitting here in Norwell, MA on Feb 25th in shorts and a t-shirt with the windows open. Spring fever, baby!
