Default A-10

Three A-10s put on quite a show over Red Hill a minute ago. They came low over the Mboro Airport and Berry Pond and then passed over the Sandwich Range.

Impressive! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchi...Thunderbolt_II

Did they come over the Lake?

Thumbs up

Around 3:30 in the Alton area, right over the bay, I had enough time to hear them coming, stop, pull over and watch them leave. I don't care who you are, that is such a awe inspiring moment to witness those aircraft.

I saw the four fighters in the Concord area this afternoon and don't think they were A-10s. Definitely looked like a swept-wing. And A-10s have a very distinct engine sound.

Default Different Sound...Indeed...

That would account for the very loud "crackling" jet sounds I heard around 3:30 today—definitely speedier than A-10s.

While I couldn't see them through the forest canopy overhead, I'd guess they flew over Wolfeboro Neck, heading northwest towards Sandy Island.

Posting for very excited RG via cell phone.

She was sitting on the deck around 3:30 this afternoon with her camera at her side. She heard a tremendous roar and jumped to her feet with camera in hand. She looked straight up to see two jet fighters directly overhead. They had come from the Gunstock direction and though the notch on Rattlesnake on the south east end. She saw the bellies of 2 planes through the small clearing in the trees as they headed toards Wolfboro. She said they were excitingly low.

As soon as they cleared the island, she says they banked hard to the right and headed to Alton Bay. She said the sound was incredible and she had goosebumps and a tremendous sense of pride. The dogs did not care for the surprise and the younger one was shaking and the older one who is usually the thunder coward scared them away quite successfully with his barking.

Despite having the camera in hand and turned on, she could not remove the lens cap quickly enough to catch a picture of the once in a lifetime sight. She described the wings as swept back. The tail as >< ish.

5 hours later, she is still excited.

On Sunday she will be waiting on the dock around race time.... just in case lightning strikes twice.

Not to worry, just practice flights for the NasCar race at NHMS on Sunday!

We were down in the Chestnut Cove area, and saw four military jet in single file coming down the broads and then make a right turn (for them) down Alton Bay. Flying a couple of thousand feet above the ground, and were impressive to watch. Definitely not A10's, as they were swept wing types.

Made me proud, and made me want to salute and wave, but I was riveted in place watching them do their fly by.

Four F-15's were heading north of the NHMS around 3 p.m. I happened to see them while driving down Rt. 106 while heading home from the lake yesterday. These are probably what many saw yesterday afternoon.

If it roars, it's definitely not an A-10. They're quiet little buggers. The loudest part of that aircraft is the GAU-8 30mm on it, and you definitely don't want to hear it go Braaaaaaaap when it's pointed at you! But now that VitaBene mentioned the A-10's, I'm bummed that I missed that show. Sounds like it was a mini-airshow around the lake yesterday.

I was a "gun plumber" (weapons specialist) for the GAU-8 on the A-10's (Warthogs) out of Barnes, Westfield, MA for a few years. Fearful weapon on a tough warbird.

RG said the jets came over the island again today in just about the same spot as the other day. Maybe it's like boating where you discover your favorite route.

I was at the Sprint Cup race today and the birds came in from the south at approximately 1:15pm. They were 4 F-15;s from the 104th TFG at Barnes Field in Westfield Ma. The Mass Air Guard...
Nice flyover then several minutes later they were much higher flying to the South heading back home

I saw 4 A10's fly over Squam and my shop real low. So did just about ever body else up here last week. I though the A 10's were based out of Westfield, but the squadron shipped out to the mid west (?). And thats why they are not commonly seen around here anymore. Wounder where these 4 aircraft came from?, kind of out the blue? I also thought there are F 16's that fly out of Burlington VT that you hear at a high altitudes? I miss the A10's buzzing around.

The squadron is still in Westfield but received the F-15's a couple of years ago.. There are no more A-10s based here in the North East.. Actually the F-15's came from Otis AFB .. Otis's guard bases aircraft were re assigned to Barnes Field in Westfield as part of the military realignment..

Training missions are not always local. Could have come from just about anywhere where the Warthogs are now stationed. Army or Marines may have been conducting an exercise here in the northeast and the A-10's might have been involved in the exercise flying infantry cover and tank killer missions to negate any resistance the infantry may have been facing.

Just a guess.

Saw what was probably an A-10S tonight at 8:30, about 500' up, crossing Rt 49 in Thornton, going north to south, and heading toward the Sandwich Notch Wilderness Area. They always travel in pairs around here, so there could have been a second that I missed as I was driving and watching close for moose. It was going very slowly.

We heard this and ran onto the deck and luckily saw them flying directly over the island, what a treat.

Talking Absolutely Amazing!

Unbelievably fantastic... they come and go so fast and sound so incredible! Sadly, I didn't have a prayer of getting a picture. Maybe if I had been out on the water, away from the island? Maybe next race.
Hope someone got pictures to share with us!!!

The new F-15 "Hornet" departs from a carrier, but arrives with a very old sentiment.

That's an F/A-18, not an F-15, and it's not exactly new: they've been operational with the Navy and Marine Corps since 1983.
