...you were lucky they were out of turkey & that you left. They charge a LOT of money for a really poor plate of turkey.

Yup. The food's not great, but at least it's expensive.

Wait! I LOVE Harts's, and it's not expensive. OK, maybe it's the nostalgia, or maybe it's the Ritz crackers and carrot slaw, or maybe it's the G&Ts talking...

But in any event, it's like $20 for Thanksgiving every day of the year, and just $3 more for a salad. I'm not aware of any full service restaurant that is less $.

If I wasn't ROFL at your signature as I type, I might really be upset

Drove by Hart's this morning, maybe nine o'clock or so. HUGE pool water tractor trailer turned over on its side. Coming from Rt. 104, it looked like the truck was trying to make a "too fast" turn into the parking lot- must have been trying to avoid something.

Didn't look like it hit the building, but didn't seem more than a few feet way, either.

There is another thread on the roll over. Apparently the drivers brakes failed and made a last minute decision to turn into Hart’s parking lot and turned over.

No excuse for running out of Turkey though.

Sounds a little strange that they run out of turkey and have a truck accident the same day. Maybe there’s a connection? Was there a fuel spill that somehow leaked into their refrigerator making the turkey inedible? Or some of the water? Again, very strange.

Georges, VK, and Union diner are all better quality, serving sizes, and start at half the cost. I would call all three real restaurants.

Harts was never a value but at least there was a level of quality. We stopped going years ago after decades, haven't heard one reason to make me think it's improved.

Default Went a couple weeks ago....

Had the turkey plate. It was just OK. Brought the leftovers home and threw them away after a few days in the fridge. Mediocre at best.

Somehow, when I cook and slice my own turkey at home (only on Thanksgiving BTW) it presents much differently on the serving platter than what you get at Hart’s. Don’t know what they do differently...maybe it’s the “volume” thing again.
I have eaten there twice in the last 5 years and like most say, it’s okay but not great. However, I’m not a fussy guy when it comes to most restaurant food except for steak any prime rib which I would not order at Hart’s.
Perhaps it’s time for them to throw in the napkin...
As an aside, we had last Thanksgiving at The Homestead and it was more like a home cooked meal as far as the turkey presented and tasted.

I know the forecast numbers for summer tourism in NH are supposed to be record breaking this year; perhaps these establishments are using last years numbers to stock their inventory?

It's unacceptable to run out of turkey at a turkey restaurant.

Perhaps having a truck drive into their building that morning interrupted their ability to prepare for the day - either by not being allowed into the building to start food on time or not being able to receive deliveries while there was a tanker rolled over against the building? It seems rather coincidental that they ran out on same day their building was damaged. Much better to go in winter though when they have Friday night buffet!

Poster didn't mention that Harts said anything about the truck incident. You would think if that was the reason they would be sharing that with people (or at least use it as their excuse!!)

^ This. It doesn't sound like there was any reason given, which isn't cool. A quick, "I'm terribly sorry, but we (insert reason why turkey restaurant would run out of turkey here)" would have been nice.

Was the building damaged? I doubt there is a connection to the accident.

As a Hart's Lover, I will update my post from a year ago when I raised a nut allergy concern. Happily, they now do have a kitchen and wait staff that has been trained in allergies, so now my entire family can enjoy. As with any allergy/restaurant, just inform your server as you order.

I was at the Tavern this past winter, first time in many years, and had the buffet. I thought the food was very good but it wasn't cheap. At my age I find that I can't eat that much food anymore to justify eating off the buffet.

I totally agree ….. the Winter Buffet ( which I hope they will do again this year) is very good (not superb)…………a wide variety which you hope for in a buffet, including fish dishes and the Prime rib is always hand cut with numerous alternatives & sides to choose from.

If I recall ( I may be wrong) it was about $35/pp-- but considering the choices and unlimited trips -- not a bad Deal at all..

Like Biggd - now that I am older I do not eat as much -- but the buffet allows me to get "what I want" in the portion sizes (larger cut of prime) that I want and lesser amounts of the sides.

Overall, I would give it a B+

I am not beating up on any body. I related my experience of paying way too much for way too little quality.

So you have not eaten here in YEARS but based on a contract they have with another establishment you are recommending it. How about you go spend your money and then give a real assessment

Kinda nasty, and definitely unwarranted. Joey opined on the food, which he has eaten more recently

Add humility to that! There was a time when being humble was respected. Going forward I wouldn't be surprised to see the word removed from the English language.
