Quite a clatter outside. Strong winds. Hail. Gobs of rain. Dangerous ground Lightening. Thunder. Watch yourselves. Plants are going to take a beating today.

Default Lots Of Rain!

We got to the island right after the rain stopped and there were a couple of small boats at the Glendale docks nearly swamped and full with water. Must have been a lot of rain that fell quickly!!

Battening down the hatches for the next wave of storms expected in about an hour...

Default 3 1/2 inches

3 1/2 inches in the rain gauge here on the hill in West Alton. That total was in two short blasts of downpour. The 650' steep gravel driveway suffered serious erosion. The high flow rate overwhelmed the water bars. Looks like it will take about 30 yards of gravel and several hours work with the tractor.

It was definitely the most sustained, intense two downpours I've seen in quite a while. Glad someone measured it.

I design a big tropical garden at Bay Top Motel and it was utterly obliterated from 12 minutes of inch to inch and half sized hail. Seeing the shredded remains was one of the more soul deadening things I've endured. Planning begins in September for the following year... so much work all gone.

Before:

After:
(You can actually see the grit that was beaten off the roof shingles in the pic of the hail itself.)

Default Alton Bay

our hail was about 3/8 inch the first time, and then about a quarter inch the second time. Our stream went from virtually dry to a roaring torrent in 20 minutes time.

Default 3 1/4" of Rain Fell Here

We got 3 1/4" of rain yesterday afternoon in two separate waves. The first wave dumped 3/4" of rain and then it appeared to be clearing off. Then the second wave came through with very heavy rain and pea-sized hail. The second wave dumped an additional 2 1/2" of rain. There was quite a bit of lightning and thunder, especially when the second wave came through.

That's a darn shame about your landscape design Scott.

Some really nice work you had accomplished there. Gotta hurt.
