Default What local newspaper do you read and why?

I'm curious to find out which local newspaper people read in town, The Citizen or The Laconia Daily Sun...If you read one over the other, which one and why? I'm interested to see the results...

I read them both on-line although the LDS reads like a bad chat room sometimes and it seems their editing is non exsitant.JMO..sorry LDS

I read the Sun because its free and they do (imho) excellent local reporting, attending town meetings and the like. They could work on the editing, although it doesn't really bother me too much.

Is also an on-line must read. A bit more unbias on opinions than the citizen and the sun. It gives a better insight to what the state mindset is going in a lot of issues. Give it a try.

I like The Baysider which covers Alton, Barnstead & New Durham. It comes out every Thursday. Some of papers are free and others you need to subscribe to.

The Lakes Region is very fortunate to have a number of newspapers including The Citizen and the LaDaSun and others. Having to compete against themselves served up for free on the internet is a highly unusual situation. Given the choice between paying 50 cents or free seems like an odd choice. It just could be that the real newspaper money is all paid by the advertisers so maybe it does not make too much differance at the end of the day?

The LaDaSuns' letters to the editors is usually a good read. ::

Last month, the LaDaSun had a large display ad one day which showed a large photo of a Navy SEAL holding an assault rifle in a somewhat threatening combat type situation. It read that the SUN had recently hired a former NAVY SEAL to do past due advertising collections and that while you, the SUN's advertisers, might be tough it stated that "we are tougher!" Not your everyday newspaper ad......gave me a big chuckle ....... .

Default Local Newspapers

I subscribe to the Laconia Citizen and also read the Laconia Sun on occasion. I think they both do a good job keeping us up on local news. I particularly enjoy Warren Huse’s History Page, which appears in the Saturday edition of the Citizen.

As to photos, Citizen photographer Daryl Carlson does a terrific job photographing his subjects at just the right angle to get the most desirable effects. His nature photos are especially outstanding and interesting. Both men are to be commended for their expertise and work for the paper.
