Default Where's my Pitot Tube?

The speedometer on my 1999 Sea Ray 210 BR is not working and I've been told the pitot tube opening may need to be un-clogged. I understand it's suppose to be on the transom near the outdrive, and I've seen black pitot tubes on other boats running down the transom to just below the water line. I've put on my snorkel and facemask and looked for it for quite a while but it's alluding me so far. My boat doesn't seem to have a tube running down the transom like I've seen on these other boats. Does anyone know where it is on my boat?

Default Pitot Tube

If you have a Mercruiser Alpha Outdrive, the speed sensor is located within the out drive and won't be visible. The sensor hole is located in the leading edge of the out drive just above the nose of the gear train. This inlet hole is for water pressure to provide input as to speed. Clean out this hole carefully with a 1/8 inch drill bit--hand twist only.

It's "a" in the image above.

The problem may also be cause by a loose speedometer hose connection on the drive. It's near the front, just above the ventilation plate.

Default Found It

PHDIII's location of my pitot tube was spot on. I cleaned it out with the drill bit by hand as PHDIII suggested and the speedometer now works fine. Went for a test drive this afternoon. Also, thanks for the picture Dave R. The image was very helpful. That hole is small and hard to find.

It definitely an X. The site you linked to is serving an image that is different for hotlinks, since they appear to not want their content redistributed. You likely have a cached version from your original/direct load of the image, but everyone else sees a GIF of a red X.

Yes- an image of the top of the drive and a second of the top of the drive with a pair of hands showing what to do with the pitot.

That is a single image. Above that, there is supposed to be another image, supposedly with an "A" identifying some component.

I see two images..L & R ..maybe in the same frame...L & R. An artists simple rendition..which works for me...technically.. However: There is also a relatively large stand alone RED X above..but that X is NOT in a box...which is the usual case when you can't bring up a picture. NB

That's because the "X" is the actual image being served by the site he tried to link an image from originally.

You are not seeing an undisplayable image indicator, you are seeing a perfectly displayed image of a red X.
