Default Nolans

This is my first year on the lake and we are slowly learning of all of the attractions on or close to the water. We have had dinner at Garwoods several times with no complaints. I was told to check out Nolan’s so we took a nice boat ride Friday night to check them out. Unfortunate to say our meals were just ok. I had the veal saltimboca, our friends the chicken Marsala and my daughter the ravioli in red sauce. They were all just ok. My wife had the swordfish special that she did enjoy. The drinks and salad were good and our waitress Katie was awesome. I believe the restaurant and/or their pub can be a fun hangout and will go back but only for sandwiches, salad and drinks.
I would be interested to hear from others as there favorite places to dine by boat.

I've only had Pizza and Salad there a couple times. Both times the meal and service were great. Actually I think they have one of the best pizza's in the lakes region.

The Saltimboca and Marsala were really good when Chef Barry from Karyn and Barrys was preparing it for them, no idea if he is still around or not, miss Karyn and Barrys.

Default We like Nolan’s!

We eat lunch there regularly, and always have great meals and service. We would heartily recommend them. I am sure that during the “press of business“ things may not be perfect but overall a great spot !

A thought for “Better than Bacon”:

Before going on a public forum and denigrating a local business:

#1. Speak to a manager or in this case Carolyn about your experience.

#2. Give it at least another try, before commenting about your experience.

#3. Be aware that words matter.

#4. Happy to welcome you to the region, I would ask you to consider that none of these are chain restaurants, they all work very hard at being the best they can be!

I really don’t like they were “denigrating “ Nolan’s. They were sincere with the experience commented the food so “ok” not”bad” they liked the special and would be going back. I don’t think it’s necessary to start complaining to Management just because a meal was “ok” not every dish is prepared the way everyone likes.

No lake views but it's a very special place only a short walk from the Wolfeboro docks at 50 N. Main Street, and I doubt they're even capable of producing a meal — or drinks — that's “just okay.” Service is great, too. Dinner Tues.-Sun., reservations suggested but not required.

The OP expressed their opinion about their own experience on the Restaurant Forum. No denigrating was done.

Words DO matter.

Lighten up Francis.

Thank you for this info. I did see their sign but thought they were a bakery.
We will be sure to check them out.

GEEZ GBGX2,

I didnt mean to sound as I was denigrating the establishment, but was trying to give an honest review as I thought that is what this forum was asking for. As I stated I will go back for sandwiches, drinks, and salad. I am well aware that the establishment is not a chain operation and am sure that the owners are good hard working people like most small business owners throughout New England. But thanks for the info.
Yes words do matter That is why I used words like Awesome and Fun and also did state that I would go back.
As far as speaking to the manager. When 3 out of 4 meals are what I consider just ok this tells me that is the quality of their product. Not saying that the quality is bad just not what I would like. So I do not see any point in bothering the management on a busy night over the issue.
Cheers!

I appreciate your thoughts, denigrate was perhaps a bit harsh. Apologies!

I always feel that owners appreciate any feedback: positive, negative or “just okay”. Better to hear it from a patron directly than reading about it when it is too late to find out what would have made the experience better.

Nolan’s is a great spot, I hope you will go back for more than just apps or sandwiches, I am sure they would appreciate a second chance.

Thanks again and cheers back to you!

I love Nolans! It’s one of my favorites in town. It’s the Wolfeboro version of Cheers for us locals.

Default Exactly the same only different

Every time I see the thread about the Nolans I think about the extensive postings about the efforts and negotiations from the people who wanted to skydive at Laconia Airport.

I wonder what happened to them?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread!

That was an epic thread with 592 posts and about 225,000 views:

https://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums...ead.php?t=7143

From their final posts in that thread, the Noonans are now taking their skydiving adventures around the globe, including skydiving Mt. Everest!

We love Nolan's. We go 8-10 times/season
they bill themselves as a brick oven bistro and I can tell you the pizza is excellent. Service has been great though we usually sit at the bar where Andy the bartender is a master at his craft.
Calamari is a great deal and nice size at $9.99

Definitely a favorite for pizza, apps and cocktails

I know it's off topic and I won't post again, but did they give up on the Laconia Airport?

Default The Return

So this past Sunday we went back to Nolans for Lunch.
As I stated in the OP we would go back and we would order sandwiches and salads.
So that is what we ordered sandwiches, salad, chowder and a flat bread, a glass of wine and a couple of beers.
Happy to report we had a very nice lunch. The food was to the quality I would expect and the service again was prompt and friendly.
Always fun to watch the Red Sox win as I eat lunch

You've posted that many times. We get it: everyone knows your name.

There have been a number of reviewers commenting that they felt marginal because waitstaff and bartenders were busy chatting with diners they knew. Perhaps you're part of the problem?

I also noticed that Nolan's has purchased the Cider Press restaurant , wonder what that means?

I would argue that it was. The cheesy "Cheers" reference is only supporting the notion that some diners have had, i.e., that you need to be a resident and regular to feel welcome. If you want to promote the place (whatever your connection to it), it would be best to find another way to describe it.
