Default Mooring Lines/Lines In General

Hi Folks,
looked at my mooring lines this weekend and I think it is time for at least one of them to be replaced, one is 5 years old, the second about 3.

I have been extremly fortunate since joining the forum and the lake that one of our esteemed members gave me his lines when I first started out, and then I was able to purchase another line from a cottage association neighbor of mine. I Have not really had to go out and purchase.

I have tried searching online but I am having trouble finding 5 or 6 foot lines with what I believe are steel eye chaffing rings in each eye

where is the best place to purchase online or around Laconia area, and what are good prices for them?? my extensive research has still left me guessing.

I know that our marina sells them but seems expensive at about $55

thanks Forum Buddies

Irwin Marine typically stocks a nice selection of Knotical Marine marine lines, including mooring lines. The purveyor David Putnam works there during the summer and can custom make anything you may need.

I bought your original lines at Irwin around 2002 for about $50 each. Probably cost a little more now.

Glad to see you wore them out, better than wasting away in my dock box.

I did not want to say it was you without your permission, but yes they were great.
We are using the one I replaced for a neighbors jetski actually. It is more than fine for that for a couple more years and then will replace that one with the one I bought from my neighbor probably next year

I will check out Irwin and Parafunalia

Believe it or not BG carries an extensive line of mooring accessories as well as dock hardware. I would check it out.

Default Parafunalia

I just bought a set of four at Parafunalia in Gilford and all their lines were on sale for a very fair price!

Default hooring lines

They are easy to make and you can make the length you want. The ones you buy have a hook that you need two hands and sometimes is a pain to hook or unhook. We use a ss hook made by Suncore and 18 boats in the mooring field have not had a problem.PM me if you want to see how they are made.

You wrote steel eyes. Please buy galvanized.
I used to do my own splicing lines the way I learned as a kid on the MA coast.

Maintain a nice size loop in one end. I can still do so, but would rather not broadcast to all of my capabilities. Unable to remember names but there are many stores that maintain websites for ordering. Google search.
West Marine is one.

SO: Are we talking about "mooring" lines...attached to a "mooring" buoy..?? OR are we talking about DOCK lines..just wondering. There is a BIG difference. NB
