Default Snow Shoe Disc Golf World Championship this Saturday at the Mystic Meadows!!

The Mystic Meadows, home of Tavern 27 and Jade Trace Golf, will be hosting the 2013 Snowshoe Disc Golf World Championship, to take place on Saturday February 23rd at noon and will benefit Better Together, a Lakes Region initiative working to benefit the community.
Teams of two will compete for the lowest course score and the title of the first ever Snowshoe Disc Golf Champions in the Lakes Region. Teams consist of 2 players wearing snowshoes playing with a regulation size disc. The Mystic Meadows also has snowshoes to lend while supplies last. Individuals that show up as a single to play will be paired with other individuals to form a team. Teams will be paired up and play as a foursome. To play the game disc is advanced from the tee box to the basket by being tossed from one team mate to another until one team mate can put the disc in the basket. The number of tosses, including the toss into the basket, is the team score for the hole. If the disc is tossed and it is not touched by the teammate, and the disc hits the ground, the team is assessed a 2 toss penalty. Play continues from the point where the disc lands, no closer to the hole. If the disc is thrown and is touched by the teammate but not caught and it hits the ground the team is assessed a 1 toss penalty. Play continues from the point where the disc lands, no closer to the hole. There is also a lost Disc Penalty, if the disc is thrown and is irretrievable; a 2 toss penalty is assessed. Summons the beverage cart to retrieve the disc. This is a game of honor and teams are to assess the penalty on themselves. Total score for the nine holes is the team game score. The team with the lowest score will be crowned the world champions and win prizes. The entry fee of $50.00 will be collected and the proceeds from the event will benefit the local organization, Better Together.
Better Together is a grassroots effort to rekindle the spirit of neighborhood and community in the Lakes Region. Every individual has a contribution to make, and everyone is welcome to come and express an idea or two that will help improve our community. Better Together has inspired programs like Got Lunch. Their meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month at the Laconia Middle School Library from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. New Action Teams are forming all the time. Call 603-581-1571 for more information on Better Together.
Those looking to support the effort, but not wishing to play can participate as a spectator. The Mystic Meadows is also accepting One Toss Jackpot prizes. Like hole-in-one prizes, the prize is given out if a player lands the disc in the basket on the first toss. Our current prizes include: Ippolito’s Furniture – Recliner valued at $499; Burrito Me – 1 burrito a week for a year valued at $500; MC Cycle and Sport – a pair of Dior Snowshoes valued at $230; Belknap Tires- 2 Snow Tires valued at $250; Tavern 27 - $500 in Gift Certificates; Jade Trace Golf $500 in Golf Gift Certificates.
Whether you are playing the game to support Better Together or just looking for a thrilling Saturday afternoon outside, this tournament will be fun for all. Plus thanks to the delicious tapas offerings at Tavern 27 no one will be leaving hungry. If snow is lacking the game will be played the same, just without snowshoes. If you have extra snowshoes that you would like to donate for the cause, please drop them off at Tavern 27. For those of you wondering about how this will affect the dog sled race that weekend, not to worry, we can pause the game when they come by as not to distract the dogs with the Frisbee like discs. Visit SnowshoeDiscGolf.com for more information and to register.
