Unhappy Rattlesnake Gal Needs Your Help

THIS IS TO ALL OF YOU HAVE MET or KNOW OUR RATTLESNAKE GAL HERE ON THE FORUM.

SHE IS VERY SICK AT THE MOMENT AND ASKS FOR ALL WHO WISH TO PRAY FOR HER TO GET BETTER. I CANNOT DIVULGE HER SPECIC ILLNESS (ONLY SHE CAN LET YOU KNOW THAT) BUT IT IS VERY RARE AND SHE IS SUFFERING AT THIS TIME. SHE HAS ANOTHER DR. VISIT ON FRIDAY AND ONLY TIME WILL TELL. SHE IS VERY SCARED. THIS ILLNESS ONLY STRIKES .27PEOPLE OUT OF 100,000.

PERSONALLY I AM PRAYING FOR HER HEALTH TO RETURN SOON.

A PRIVATE E-MAIL TO HER WOULD BE GREAT AND YOU CAN DO THAT HERE ON THE FORUM. SEND HER YOUR GOOD WISHES AND A PRAYER FOR HER RECOVERY. http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ilmember&u=176

RG IS ONE OF THE SPECIAL PEOPLE HERE WHO HAS DONE MUCH FOR THIS WEB SITE WITH HER CONTRIBUTIONS AND POSTS.

THANK YOU,
JUST SOLD

Question Anything else

... we can do ? I'm not a religious person but if it'll help I'll get religion and start praying. "Mee" had expressed some concern 'cuz RG hadn't been posting much. This is horrible confirmation of her fears. I'm at a loss for words. "Mee" and I send RG and her family all our wishes for a full recovery.

ps - "Mee's" mom is the praying type. We'll have her add RG to her list !

Default Thoughts and prayers for a special "Gal"

Rattlesnake Gal, you don't know me, because although I've been a long-time daily visitor to the forum, I only recently became an "official" member. But I feel as though I know you--I've enjoyed your delightful, informative posts and wonderful photos for years. I'm deeply saddened to learn of your illness, and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Like so many others on the Forum, I wish you all the best for a complete recovery. We miss--and need--your warmth and sense of humor! I hope that it won't be long before you can once again bless us all with both.

Default Great idea!

Perhaps the Babes could suspend the snow and ice dancing and take up a "get well soon" dance!! The dances always seem to work, even if its not right away.

At the very least I hope the idea brings a smile to you RG.

I've been reading the forum for quite a while, and just registered as a member. I wasn't sure that I would ever post on a forum, but had to add my prayers for strength, health and peace for RG. I firmly believe in the power of prayer, and based on the quick response to the request, I'd say that RG is well on the way to health.

Talking You Are Terrific! Thanks!!!

My Dear Forum Family,

I am so choked up. I cannot express how touched I am with this incredible outpouring of love and support here in this thread and the wonderful e-mails and messages. Your thoughts, prayers and support are appreciated more than you can even know.

Paul and I cannot help but recognize that it is this very forum at Winnipesaukee.com that helped us realize that my little rash might be something serious. If we hadn’t known about the possibility of a parasite being passed along from ducks to humans, my infection might still be spreading and getting worse. I have been diagnosed with Mycobacterium marinum, (Fish Tuberculosis) which is very rare and can be highly resistant to antibiotics. This infection was transferred from our new fish tank and involves my whole left arm. It is unbelievably painful, at the affected sites, along with the muscles and joints. We are hopeful, as the rash has not spread since taking the new antibiotic on Monday. (Though it does look fierce.) I see the doctor again on Tuesday. (Hopefully no after hours calls will be needed this weekend.)

Thank you very much for the healing thoughts and prayers. They definitely will help me in my fight against this awful disease. I am still very scared of what may lie ahead, but I take strength in your love and support. You are the best friends a gal could have! Thanks everyone!

With sincere love and affection,
Celia

RG< you will pull through this. You have a great spirit and that alone is all the strength you need to beat this thing. In your pain, focus your thoughts and energy on the serenity of a quiet morning or evening in your favorite spot on the lake. Although the pain will be intense, your calmness of the lake experience will settle your mind. This will give you plenty to look forward to when the pain is gone...and it will eventually go away. Get good help at good hospitals, even if it takes you away from the local medical providers. Just because it is rare doesn't mean you can't beat it. Someone out there hs the knowledge you need. Good luck and your forum family all over the state, eastcoast and world wide are pulling for you. If you ever need to vent, you have us right here at your beckoned call.

Second it's good to know "Mee" was wrong re: your posting slowdown. Yes, ever so good to know ... "Mee" was wrong, "Mee" was wrong ... wrong, wrong, wrong. Sounds good to say that and (hmmm, what's that you say dear ? Well I was just ... errr ... ok .... well, I was .... ok ... yes ... yes .... yes dear ... ok, yes it was I who was wrong) Hey UTS, still got room on that porch ?

RG,
Even though the majority of us don't "know" you, this forum is, in fact, loaded with caring, compassionate people who deeply care for their Forum Friends. I like to consider myself one of them and wish you a speedy recovery.

Hey RG, probably everyone has heard about Lou Gehrig. Maybe the Chronic Disease Hall of Fame will name your rare disease after you, and 75 years from now your name will still be on baseball gloves, or something! The power of positive thinking! Go RG!

Compared to a lot of illnesses, I think my condition could seem rather minor. I feel kind of unworthy of all this attention, but immensely appreciate every prayer and thought. You’re the best.

A scary aspect of all this has been two of the four types of antibiotics used to fight such infections have been ruled out because of allergies. Yesterday I learned that my calcium supplement and the yogurt I’ve been eating may have been inhibiting the absorption of the Cipro. After two good doses, the large affected area looks much better. Last night my upper arm looked like a slice of very seedy eggplant, today it looks so much calmer. We’ll see what the doctor thinks later. Your thoughts and prayers definitely are helping. Thanks again everyone! You gave me a much-needed boost of optimism.

My Dearest RS:
This is your OLD (he-he) forum buddy, who swam up to your dock (underwater) and only stuck my head up (with a mask on) to say "HI," one day..Remember!
This isn't a well know fact but about me, but, nine years ago, just before I became a Forum member, I was stricken with a terrible mysterious illness that almost cost me my life. I had surgery to remove a bone tumor from, my right shoulder, another to remove part of my 7th and 8th ribs, and I was on a mechanical pump for 6 weeks with a "long line IV," inserted directly into my heart. I had to hook myself up, and pump myself with 250 ml, of Vencromysin (strongest antibiodic known) twice a day, and had give myself six injections, because it has settled in my heart, and was trying to shut my heart down. I was taken out in an ambulance, with respitory failure. I had an "unknown Highly infective Staff blood infection, and origionally diagnosed with bone cancer, which turned out to be "Osteomylittis," and not the big "C", but very much similar. I fought it with everything I had, and beat it! You saw me swim over to meet you, right after, and YOU CAN DO IT TOO! ALL my prayes go out to you, and I KNOW God will look after you and protect you! Keep the faith, and remember we are ALL here for you! ALWAYS! If I could give you a hug right now I would! In fact, here it is, my friend! BIG HUGS! We love you!

Great to see you at least well enough to be on here! Keep it up!

(Eagle, good to hear from you again too. I don't know... a 6 foot granite eagle sounds pretty good to me, don't you agree? )

Default hokey sokes

I just googled mycobacterium marinum!

Hang in there RG...

I too am allergic to several antibiotics so I guess I will stop putting my bare hands in our fish tank and pond when I need to tend them! BBS has been yelling at me about that for years, but I guess I think I'm tougher than any little bug. Do you think it was a new fish that had the bacteria or can it just develop in an established population?

Stay strong, we are all pulling for you!!

Wow Eagle that is just so awful that you’ve been through so much! Your story and others I am learning of will be added inspiration to get me through this difficult time. Hopefully your ailments are behind you now.

When you popped up at our dock, did you let me know that you are “The Eagle?” I’m having trouble remembering which diver you were! As you might have guessed, I’m the friendly sort who enjoys interacting with anyone who might cross my path.

Somehow I got lucky and there was a cancellation at the dermatologist’s office yesterday. She took a culture from one of the rash sites. I think to be sure exactly what mycobacterium we are dealing with. Cipro is not one of the antibiotics listed that should work on this kind of infection, now I am on Minocycline. So far so good accept for it’s making me feel a bit lightheaded. Just so long as it works!

Thanks again everyone for all of the wonderful support. I truly appreciate it and know you are helping.

From a bit of research I discovered that a fish could have this disease for a long time without showing signs of sickness. Not sure if it can grow on it’s own in a healthy population. One site recommends arm length gloves like veterinarian’s use for birthing large animals. In our case it’s hard to say which of our fish was or is infected. We got the aquarium just after Christmas and added five fish on New Year’s weekend. We suspect it was the Striped Catfish. (His name was Walter. Can guess how I came up with that name?”) We only have two of the original five. I added three tetras last Thursday, the day after the first sign of the rash.

You and me both! When swimming last summer a bass was following me. I was able to get close enough to tickle its belly, for quite a while too. I loved it! Sadly, that’s a thing of the past for me. At least we are on a very clean part of the lake. Speaking of bass, did anyone catch the article in The Weirs Times last fall about bass? It was wonderful. When I feel better, I'll try and find it.

My brother (a Lake Champlain boater) suggested where my odds of catching this disease were so slim maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. Wish me luck!

When you first posted what your ailment was, I copied and pasted it into "google" and read some of the results. Rare indeed...one said the infection would occur in .27 of every 100,000.

Now having met you, I don't think that your arm is approximately 1/4 of your body . However, easier understood would be perhaps approximately 1 out of 400,000 world wide, or 27 out of 10,000,000. By all means, buy that lottery ticket (but don't spend it all on fish ) (Just on someone else to come in and clean the %$#&% tank )

Sounds like you may be back on track to normalcy, and we hope for continued success.

Now, about that lightheadedness...are you sure that's something new?????

Default Which Diver was I?

Hi RSG,
I'm happy to hear you are slowly getting better. Keep fighting! Which diver was I? I am related to your next door Neighbor (Pat, Michael, Jeff, Tom) on the island, and it was right after the "Flotilla of Flags," that I swam over. I did say I was "The Eagle,' and you took my picture, BUT, I never took the mask off. Remember there was a "Big thing" about all the Celebraties on the lake, and when I formed the "Flotilla," everyone wanted to know "Who I was," and I told them I was one of the famous "Celibs" from the lake, and they would know me as soon as they saw me. Then I showed Up at the Flotilla," in my EAGLE COSTUME! (The Eagle IS a Celib..LOL), then everyone was really trying to find out who I was. (I'm not a "Celib," just a fun loving friend of the lake) That was fun! You get better soon, and maybe I'll swim over and "pop up" again some time! BIG HUGS

Default My memory has been "Jogged"

Hi Island Gal,
Now that you mention it, I DO remember you saying it was you (RSI's Sister-in-law), I was meeting, and not the elusive Rattlesnake Island Gal. I guess I better start getting in shape to swim the extra length if I want to meet her! (LOL, not at my age, not anymore). I hope she is feeling better and quickly, has a full recovery. It's funny how you can never meet someone, and they still touch you in some way, so you never forget them. She has so many friends because of her great "Forum Personality," and be assured we are all behind her with our prayers and our hugs! Since you are in a better position to do it, than I am, give her a BIG HUG, from "The Eagle!" Take care, have a safe winter, and don't be surprised if someday that guy with the yellow swim fins, and mask, sticks his head up beside you dock and say's "HI!"
Your Forum friend,

Smile Get well soon Rattlesnake Gal

Rattlesnake Gal,

I feel I know you even though we have not met. The odds of 27 people out of 10 million having this makes it rare indeed. I would have expected something like a rattlesnake bite instead of an aquarium to get you down.

Get well soon or even sooner.

Thank you

Talking You Sure Know How To Make A Gal Feel Special!

Big thanks to all my well wishers. If any one of you ever needs healing thoughts and prayers or a shoulder to lean on, you can always count on me to return the wonderful gift you’ve given me. You have made such a difference!!!

I do believe that I am doing much better now. (Keep your fingers crossed.) Not much stamina, but I’m happily gaining a bit of mobility back in my left arm and shoulder. That seems to be a good indicator that the antibiotics are doing their job. The sores aren’t quite so tender and are moving on to the itchy feel of healing. Hopefully no new ones appear and this will be the end of it. The Minocycline is still making me feel tipsy, but it isn’t that dangerous headache, which could indicate swelling of the brain. We’ll gladly take this side affect. I can handle a few weeks of it, especially with you guys behind me!

Your Forum friend,
"The Eagle"
What a grand and beautiful gesture Flotilla was!!! You look so regal leading the way!

Many thanks to Al, the Skipper of the Sea Que, for the recording this fun and touching event. Sadly we missed it, but would have loved to join in. Was there any media coverage?

I’ll be looking forward to having “The Eagle” pop up. I’ll remember the yellow fins. By the way, I didn’t know eagles could swim!

Default BC Eagle???

Dear Eagle--
As a Boston College "Double Eagle" (BA & MA) and die-hard BC football fan, I took special notice of your photo. In light of your costume and what appears to be "BC" (??--not quite clear) on your flag, I have to ask: Are you a BC Eagle? My husband and I and our children have been on campus in various capacities for nearly 40 years (as faculty, staff, and students), and as football season-ticket holders for just as long, we are well acquainted with the Eagle mascot, "Baldwin." I'm sure there are other BC folks in the Lakes Region, but this is the first time I've noticed a (possible) BC Eagle posting on the Forum--or an Eagle cruising the lake. Can you confirm? Either way, you look great in the Baldwin suit!

Most important, I'm pleased to see Rattlesnake Gal's postings and to learn that she's feeling better and making progress. Keep going, Gal!

MomCat,

While I'm sure he will do so, I can confirm Eagle is a true Eagle!

I'm double also, in a different way. (BC High / BC). Lot's of us in the lakes region!

Default Am I A BC Eagle?

Hi MomCat,
Well this is VERY hard and painful, to answer. I AM or WAS a BIG BC fan. I have had season tickets for over 27 years and my seats are in section R lower level (right ON the 50 yard line) I am a relative of FR. Edmund Walsh, SJ (Deceased, whom Edmunds Hall is named after him). I have loved BC, and BC has been the foundation to my entire adult life. Fr. Walsh, pulled my head out of my butt, after I got back from Vietnam, and helped me put my life back together. I go to the BC games with my Father-in-law, who is now 82, and failing in health,(he has held season tickets for over 63 years), my 2 brothers in law, and a few cousins. We tail Gate, and I have brought my kids up in the shadows of St. Mary's Hall and the "Heights." BC has been the love of my life (next to my family). NOW BC sent out letters, telling me I have to "Donate" $1000 per season ticket to the Flynn Fund, or give up the rights to my seats. I own 4 tickets, so that's $4000, in addition to the cost of the seats, and the $3500 for a parking pass. My Father in law, would need to "Donate" $2000 for his two tickets. His wife is in a nursing home, going on four years, so they took everything he owned. $2000 to him is "The World." The $4000 is not a Donation, but to me it is Extortion. Therefore, I am being forced to give up 27 years of going to BC, when BC couldn't give the tickets away, all because some "High Roller Donors" are complaining they can't have our seats. I have lost all my faith in BC, it's Athletic Program, and it's loyality to Alumni. It's now all about money. The GOOD thing is, this year I will finally get to go to the "Forum Fest 2007," if we still have one, because I won't be going to any BC games. I never thought I'd see the day I'd hate BC and cheer for Notre Dame, but it's here.

Well I can predict with reasonable certainty that there will be a FF 2007. What's more the tickets will be a lot less than BC's. I'll tell you what, we'll even have a special price just for you ! The rest of us will pay what we payed last year.

Well after hearing something like that I think I will protest the Eagles this year too. That is Horrible.... funny think is I might know some of those "high Roller Donors" that caused such a disaster...... It is sad that Higher Education has lost its focus.....

Default Amen

Dear Eagle and LIforrelaxin--
My husband and I share your anger and frustration over BC's new "donation" policy--this is indeed a "horrible" case of "extortion," and we have used the same terms in describing it. Our nearly 40 years of continuous patronage and loyalty as season ticket holders apparently mean nothing. But I like Mee-n-Mac's reminder that the Forum Fest will be a lot less expensive! We haven't attended a FF yet, but the postings and photos have been fun to follow. It would be great to meet some of the wonderful Forum members--ESPECIALLY a fully recovered Rattlesnake Gal. Perhaps this year...

Default Something to consider . . .

Since people are already mentioning the next Forum Fest, how about picking a date now so people can make their plans early. That would save a whole lot of last minute hassles. We could get a favorite place reserved: people could write it on their calendars (IN INK): reservations could be made. It seems like a good idea to me. What do you think?

We're approaching the point of hijacking the original thread, and veering off of Lakes Region topics with this one.

While wholely agreeing with the statements made earlier of my disappointment with the direction here, BC is far from alone in this. I sent a note offline to Eagle that he may want to reconsider switching to ND. They're worse! http://www.boston.com/sports/college..._giving_at_bc/
(suggest anyone who wants to debate this further do so at the boston.com forums)

Now, back to a focus on RG and her get well plan!!!!

RG - I've been offline for so long that I had no idea you weren't well. I'm so sorry I wasn't here for you! Now that I know what's going on, you can rest assured that you are in my prayers (we've had that conversation before, haven't we), and of course we're hoping to hear continued reports of improving health! Be strong - like I know you are!!!

Much love you!
Me

Default Thank you ...

... for letting us know of Celia's health issues. It was very thoughtful of you, "Just Sold", to get the word out to us all.
I wrote to her just now. Celia was incredibly helpful and generous with her time when I was asking for help with my DVD project.
She is one in a million, that Rattlesnake Gal !
I never got together with her last summer to thank her in person .. ya know, we think we have unlimited time for things, right ? I just hope so much that I`ll have another chance this summer.

Thumbs up On The Upswing!

I am feeling so much better! Not one hundred percent yet, but better than last week and the week before that. The infection is fading and the pain has eased greatly. Still having annoying side effects from the antibiotics, but there’s less than a week to go. With luck this will all be over and I can work on getting my strength back. Thanks again for the excellent support! I’m one lucky gal!!!

Default Happy Valentine's Day, RG!

This is a happy day, indeed! We're been wondering about you and are delighted to learn that you are feeling better and making steady progress. Hang in there with the antibiotics--they can make you feel lousy, but they are--literally--life savers. Once you're off them, you'll see even more improvement in your general well being. Most of all, take it easy and don't overdo things as you recuperate from this very serious illness. Glad to hear that you're on the road to recovery.
