Smile Merry Christmas

I’ll be in NH for Christmas.
The following was inspired by the crew from the forum. Thanks for the inspiration McDude (Post Cards), RG (Maps), DRH(Pictures), IG (Adventures), Pepper (Lobster), Upthesaukee (weather report etc), Winnie Diver(Keeping me straightened out), Webmaster Don (making it exist) and all the rest that make this a great place. This is a follow up for “In Ancient Times”.

Christmas in Ancient Times.

The hardiest neighbors stayed with Winnie and Peasaukee through the cold and snowy weather. They kept busy building log homes, cutting logs for fires and sitting around the fires to stay warm. They would celebrate a special time called Christmas. The best log was brought into the log homes and decorated with cones and specially made ornaments. The openings in the log homes were light with many candles. On a special Night everyone would gather at the central large building to pray, song, and thank the Great Spirit for all the things that they had received during the year. They gave a special thanks for the marvelous beauty and peace of the place that they lived in.

After their gathering, everyone would go back to their log and await the arrival of a special friend. He would arrive by his custom flying sled accompanied by his reindeer and visit only boys and girls who had been good for the whole year. He visited all the log homes and left gifts for the good children.

The next day neighbors would visit everyone and bring presents and food. A great meal was had with all of Winnie and Peasaukee friends.

The water of the Great Spirits Smile would be tested to see if it was hard. When DRH declared the water hard enough then everyone would go sledding and playing on the hard water. The McDude River would become hard first and people would slide down it. If there was much snow then Upthesaukee would lead friend on a snow walk through the forest. They would wear shoes specially made for walking on the snow.

Others would climb Peasaukee’s Mountain and then they would put bark on their feet and slid down to the bottom. Some would race each other.

A merry time would be had by all. Everyone would greet their neighbors with “Merry Christmas”.

I also wish all my dear forum friends a joyous celebration of love and life, be it Christmas, or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa. Whatever you celebrate, remember the reasons we celebrate, and keep always in your heart the knowledge that we Americans are free to celebrate whichever holiday is ours, without prejudice or persecution.

Merry Christmas
Happy Hanukkah
Happy Kwanzaa
and
Happy New Year to you all!

Default Merry Christmas!

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all 'cross the Lake,
Not a vessel was sailing, there was not a wake;

The docklines were stowed in the boathouse with care,
The sunset came early, there was a chill in the air.

The cruisers were laid up all snug in thier sheds'
With drains safley opened in their engines and heads;

The sailboats on cradles, running gear all well stowed,
Their shrouds, stays and haylards all dusted with snow.

When out on the bay there arose a commotion,
Like I've never heard since I sailed on the ocean.

Down to the dock I ran in a rush;
I slippped on the planking and slid in the slush.

The big Lake was frozen both far and wide;
Waiting for islanders to go out for a ride.

When what to my wondering eyes did I see;
But a miniature sleigh with a course set for me.

With a little old driver, so tiny and minni.
I know in a moment it must be St. Winni!

More rapid than coursers his seahorses came;
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

"Now DONZI! Now SKIPPER! FL Boater and Pepper!
On Mw-N-Mac! On Lady Di! Fly like a zepher!
Rise up now Gal from Rattlesnake Island!
Take to the air McDude from the highlands!"

He cried to his coursers in a bright, merry tone,
"Now dash away! Dash away! Through the no wake Zone!"

As waves in the broads sometimes will dash'
When they meet Parker Island and end with a splash;

So across the rime ice his coursers they flew,
With a sleigh full of toys and St. Winni. too!

Then in a twinkling I heard a sharp slice,
As the sleigh came to a stop on the crystal clear ice.

I looked at the chimney, 'Heard a mighty "Heave Hove!"
As the jolly elf rolled out of the old Fisher stove.

His clothes were covered in ashes and dibris;
But he faithfully wore his Type III PFD.

From a red seabag fell a bundle of toys;
To be given to the good little Winni. Girls and Boys.

For Island Gal there was a good book for reading,
for Grant was a dive tank with NITROX for breathing.

Pine Island Guy a camera so he can watch his Lake,
For Broadhopper some boat stuff, what fun it will make!

SkiSur some downhills for his next black diamond run,
Broadhopper already has his, a life full of FUN!

Then clicking his fingers, like a kid on a spree,
He gave me a wink and then motioned to me;

We ran to the sleigh, parked out on the bay,
And he gave me a message 'fore he sailed away.

His message, as he crossed the Lake crystal white;
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night"

Merry Christmas!

Default Misty Blue The New Winnie Poet Laureate

Misty Blue you are the The New Winnie Poet Laureate. Great poem. You have added to the lore of the lake. Perfect for Christmas Eve reading.
Just tucked the “kids” in and came home. Downtown Wolfeboro was a Christmas post card as I drove through.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to All

I also want to add a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone who visits this site and especially to those who support and encourage me so much during the year.

My Christmas present to all of you is a new feature: RSS feeds. It is not a momentous change but will allow those who use RSS, or those who need an excuse to try it out, a new way to access the information posted on this site. For more information check this post in the Support Forum.

I hope you all get what you want for Christmas. All I really want is more time at the lake next year!

Default It's 80 degrees and sunny, but

I'd really rather be at the Lake. Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year to all.

Default great poem Misty!!

Misty –

you have once again raised the bar and we are now all expecting a poem on every occasion from you!!

And your poetic prediction has indeed come true, I have a new web cam at the ready to give another view from the island… just waiting for enough ice to borrow one of your sleds so we can get out there

Happy New Year to all!!

Do you mean the royalty checks are in arrears?

Here's hoping you all had a GREAT HOLIDAY and got lots of toys! I still did not get a Z06 Corvette but there is always next year.

Have a Safe and Happy New Year!
