Thumbs up Good Haircut in Moultonborough

Stopped in for the first time today at A Cut Above Barber Shop this morning. It's on Rt. 25, just behind Melcher and Prescott Insurance. There's a small sign out in front of the building. I've been driving by it for a while. Desperately needed a haircut today, so I decided to check it out.

Been open for about a year, according to the owner, Ben Perry, who is listed on his business card as a Master Barber. I have to agree! He really did a nice job! Been a long time since I got an old fashioned haircut, complete with a hot lather and straight razor (disposable blade, of course) neck trim followed by a hot towel. He works carefully and definitely knows his stuff. I was very pleased with the results. The bill was only $14, and he offers a "Frequent Flier" card; after 5 haircuts the 6th one is free. Can't beat that!

He says that business slows down after the summer, so there isn't much of a wait. Check it out. I think you'll be glad you did!

I wholeheartedly agree. Does a great cut. And $14.00 Ain't bad considering that Cost Cutters is about the same but you have to go to Concord to find one...

Default Cut Above Barber Shop

I have been going to Cut Above since he opened. He does a great job and I don't have to drive to Meredith anymore to get a haircut.

Sorry don't know his complete hours listing, but he is located in back of the barn that has the picture framing and insurance place. Melcher and Prescott I think. Just past the school and on the right hand side coming from Center Harbor. Has a small sign out front. Funny I can't find his phone number on the internet. I'll have to tell him to get listed next time I am in.

Default Directions

Easy to find. From Center Harbor, on Rt 25, go through the light in Moultonborough (by Murphy's Irving). Go about 2 miles, past the school, then start looking on your right for the sign. The shop is located in the rear of the Melcher and Prescott Insurance building, just before you get to Bank of New Hampshire. Phone is 470-7720.

Nice kid, excellent barber. He figure out what I wanted with about 3 questions and did it exactly right. Hope he does well and stays in Moultonborough. His old fashioned style fits in well!

Default For your GPS

Ooops! Left out the street address. Put 954 Whittier Highway in your GPS. Can't miss the building. Looks like a barn.

Thumbs up

Well count me as a satisfied customer. Stopped in this morning and met Ben, very nice soft spoken young man. Excellent cut, and best of all, no hair down my back because of his hot towel treatment after the razor cut.

I also got to meet raydoe1 who was the next in-line. Nice meeting you raydoe1.

Default Looks like he's closed!

Looks like he is closed.

Stopped by for a haircut a couple of weeks ago and there was a sign saying he was closed because of a medical problem. Managed to connect with Ben by phone last week, and he said he had broken his leg and was unable to stand for an extended time, which obviously is a problem for a barber. He hoped to hire someone to fill in, but apparently that didn't work out. I called today so check the status and the phone was not in service.

Too bad! He did a great job!

I hope he will be able to return to his business.
To bad he can't sit on a bar stool type chair and swivel the barber chair for most of the cut.

Best wishes

Smile He's Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Barber Shop is open again! Stopped by on my way to the bank this morning and was pleasantly surprised. Ben hired another barber to fill in until he's back on his feet. (Pun intended!)

Vinni is from Gilmanton and did a wonderful job! Nice guy with a great sense of humor! And I no longer look like a castaway from a reality TV show. Ben made a good choice.

The hours have changed. They are closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

They are open Tuesday 8am to 4pm, Wednesday 10am to 6pm, Thursday 8am to 4pm, and Friday 8am to 5pm. There is currently no phone for the shop.

Also, they will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Really glad Ben was able to reopen! And, for you people in Gilmanton, Vinni plans to open his own shop in the Iron Works next spring.

I got a haircut there yesterday. I agree with Mr. Prop B Gone 100%
Vinny gave me an excellent haircut, has a great personality, and the shop was very clean.
Ben couldn't have found a better guy to fill in while he is gone!

I believe he is gone- Ben has/had health issues.

I would highly recommend Rick's Barbershop in the Fitness Edge Plaza in Meredith. It is a great clean shop, old school, with talented nice barbers! http://www.ricksbarbershopnh.com/

Thanks, he has mentioned and laughed about those issues. Hope the best for him. I'll look into that Meredith recommendation.

... if you have a wife or girlfriend who is willing, that's usually a good answer. Been my solution for 20+ years.

I've offered to reciprocate, but for some reason I'm always turned down

Can't imagine why

Try Ruel's Barber Shop on Main Street in Meredith. Owned by Jane Allen. NOT a beauty salon. Very good hair cuts.

Default Fantastic Shave

I just left ricks barbershop in Meredith and experienced a fantastic straight blade shave. If I didn't lose count I believe he used four different lotions three hot towels and one call towel. My face is the softest I've ever felt it. Highly recommend it and want to encourage it so much that if you have him validate your visit, I will welcome you to play my golf course for free between now and next Friday

It really depends on who you get there, after a few disasters, I would have to think real hard on returning.

OTOH, glad it worked out for you.

Being in the business I am in I can understand how the service from one individual or another will impact the experience. I was so happy with my experience I hadn't thought to ask if there was a way to request a specific Barbara.

Haircuts are ten dollars at Corner Cuts, Main St, Plymouth .... by one of two lady barbers ....across from the Subway ...and next door to Allstate .... opens at 8-am, Mon-Tues-Fri-Sat- and maybe even Sunday(?) ..... super fast .... like all done in 4-minutes.
