Default Last-minute lodging for a family ?

Hi, I'm new to NH and hoping for some guidance. I'd like to book three or four nights in the Lake Winne area for the end of July but we're flexible through mid-September. I'm having the hardest time figuring out a place to stay. I need a king or two queen beds for my husband and 18 month old at a $200/night max. When I actually see a recommendation, it turns out to be an inn with only one queen bed, a resort that's $300/night, etc.

We just want to enjoy NH's beautiful outdoors without camping. It would be great to have a place where we can rent a kayak or canoe, for instance.

Where should I be looking?? Thank you.

Not sure what your price vs comfort range is, but if you're leaning towards the cheaper side, not fancy...Berry Pond Motel maybe? I have never stayed there, but I've driven by a bunch of times, and always seems to have folks staying there... http://www.berrypondmotel.com

Default Homeaway or VRBO

Have you tried online by looking at Homeaway.com or VRBO.com. Their sites will list a lot of vacation rentals which may be private cottages or homes on or near the lake. Your chances of getting a very good deal increase very much after labor day when the rates drop and owners are willing to shorten the rental period.

Default Margate

There are alot of places. Try the Margate. They have three buildings with options for money spent. Indoor Pool, good beach, and nice place to have a drink outside. Not far from Weirs Beach.

Try Pipingrock (http://pipingrockresort.com/)

They have various size units and hotel rooms. They also have kayaks for their guests use. Nice sandy beach too. Just north of Wolfeboro.

How about the Center Harbor Inn? I know they have rooms with two queens and I believe will be in your price range. It is right on the lake, close to the town beach, across from a great little bagel cafe and other little shops and Heath market and hardware are close by. I have never stayed there but have heard it is just fine.

I just posted my cottage in the classified section here; but as others have said VRBO and Homeaway are great resources.

If you found another couple to split the week, you might consider my cottage. Great location on the lake...and you wouldn't have to rent a canoe or kayaks...we have 'em all right there for you!

Oh wow! Thank you SO much for these suggestions! I'm the queen of googling for answers but I either had an overwhelming amount of information or I'd narrow my search so much I'd have nothing. I look forward to choosing one of these this weekend.
I saw a picture of Lake Winne in a travel magazine a couple weeks ago and just fell in love. Can't wait to see it in person! Once we're in the Lake Winne area we'll have a better idea of the various towns and lodgings for next year. I really appreciate it.

I second the recommendation for Piping Rock. It's right on Rt 109 in Wolfeboro near the Tuftonboro border about three miles from the center of town. A lot to off for your little one.

Another thought. You mentioned you wanted to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. in my opinion, Piping Rock will offer you the closest thing to the beauty of the
Ake that you've seen in pictures.

Just beware Scuba Mama, that once you've come here, you're going to find it hard to stay away. You've got some good choices of places to stay to ponder and decide upon. Let us know how you make out and if you have any other questions on what to do in the area. Good luck !

You could also look into the Silver Sands Motel in Gilford. I've had family stay there before visiting us while boating, it's located in Sauders Bay, has a sandy beach with chairs/tables, outdoor pool and a choice between efficiancy units or motel style rooms depending on budget.

How about a waterfront cabin on a sandy beach on one of the nicest stretches of water on the lake?

After Sept. 4, Ames Farm Inn would be in your price range.
