Northern Saw-whet Owl

Yep.. this is full grown. The Northern Saw-whet is a one of the smallest members of the Owl Family. They are actually fairly common here in New England, but because they are very shy, and very small, not many people see them on a regualr basis.

They live in holloewd out holes they excavate in dead or dying trees. This picture was taken at the Squam Lake Science Center.
