Default Woodlands Tavern reported....

...on Facebook that there was a widespread outage in West Alton. Trees on fires and fallen on wires, and a car into a pole. Have not seen an update. They also reported they were closing the restaurant due to the lack of power.

9:37 - Still no power on Rattlesnake.

Have a beautiful generator hookup and a really great generator to go with it - and of course the generator is HOME and not HERE

Oh well, what are you going to do?? Can't fix (you know what)

The outage map indicates a 9:50 ESTIMATE to repair - we'll see - the repair estimate was 8:23 an hour after the outage.

Some pretty big cells went through - lots of fireworks, for sure!

Exclamation Storms Last Night

A couple of them were wicked intense in my neck if the woods! Flash-BANG!!!!! I learned a very valuable lesson too. I need to keep my phone charged when expecting a storm. It was on the charger when the first one rolled through and the power went out. 17% battery doesn't last long when you want to check radar. I woke to find an e-mail from our son, "Call me ASAP!" Figures... The one night my phone is off. Hope he's okay!

A cell phone car charger is a handy thing to have in such a situation.

Wow, I hope everything is/was OK !! The power came back a little after midnight I seem to remember. What was interesting, is that the power came back about an hour before that - for about 30 seconds, and then went out again.

For a time, the Verizon cell system was DOWN. IslandPrincess and I went over to "The Barn" to get something to eat (they had power there), and a strong storm cell came through during our dinner. The lights went out in the restaurant for about 5 seconds, and then came back on. There were several very near-by lightning hits. The fire dep't was putting something out a few hundred feet away, but we couldn't see exactly what it was. After the lights blinked out (obviously a hit on the power grid), the Verizon cell system was out for a time. No 4g/3g, etc. Other folks on the restaurant were also talking about it. By the time we finished dinner, things were back on-line.

Thumbs up Thanks wifi

I actually hadn't thought of the car charger because most of the time that I am here, the boat is at the mainland. I am unable to put her on the whips and they are oft needed on The Broads! I certainly will get one and have it just in case. I can get to the boat with the PWC.

Default power company

Lots of power company trucks on the roads this AM. Plenty to fix after last night. I also have a nice generator..... at home. I guess I should think about bringing it up

Default Ugh!

Sitting here working in MA... no Snake Eyes since this morning is breaking my heart.

It is usually how I tell if the power is out!

NH Electric Co-op was out working on the island. It is my understanding that the power splits at the peninsula. My end of the island stayed on while they were there.

Looks like I missed the boat to Nazbar! I was out kayaking with the dogs.

Harry is the bigger one, 1+ years old. Khaleesi is almost 7 months old.

George, I think the neighbor between you and Rog is missing an Adirondack chair. It is about at the halfway point on the island, number 878. There was no way that I could return it using a kayak with two dogs.

This might be a "duh!" question, but the utilities own their own work boat(s) to support the Island customers? Guess they'd have to.

I was supised to read here that Diamond does not have power brought out to it. Is that right, I wonder why not and also what other of he larger island are off the grid?

Arrow NH Electric's Boat

This is the first time that I have seen it. A fellow islander used to shuttle workers to and fro.

Snake Eyes is back up.

I am pretty sure PSNH uses Fay's Boatyard to shuttle them out to the islands they service.

Par Four: I heard just a few days ago that Diamond Island was offered electricity a year or two ago and they decided that they liked it the way it was -- generators!

Default Diamond Island

I do remember when the US Navy was running their underground laboratory at Diamond Island, a utility cable supplied electricity and phone service.

I'm surprised they did not put it to civilian use.

Not sure about PSNH and Fay's but before Verizon sold to Fairpoint they kept a Tunnel Drive Penn Yan in the rack building. Not sure if Fairpoint still owns it but I've seen it around Fay's w/out any markings this year.

NHEC has its own pontoon work boat that it keeps at Minge Cove Marina. The island resident you referred to does shuttle the workers during the off season when NHEC's work boat is not in the water or if it breaks down.

I've got one of these for my spare 12V battery—but especially handy on a car-free island:

RG, you're right....I saw their chair float by my dock (just out of reach) as I was frantically trying to secure our boat (spring lines & whips) during the torrential downpour. Like idiots we got caught by the storm while hiking back from the "top-of-the-snake" with visiting family. Can't remember ever being quite so wet!
