Ok I have lived up here for a little over 6 years. I have never been able to a get a picture of an owl in a natural setting.
I know I am no Airdale1 but hey....I got a pic of an Owl....Yipppeeeee! I am stoked.
So may I present...After six years of trying....My Owl pictures.

As it flew away I could see it was actually a pretty impressive sized bird.

I was just driving down RT 109 near 20 mile Bay and was following a slower car. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted what at first I thought was a bump on a branch.
I grabbed the brakes hard and pulled over to the side of the road and looked back. It was an Owl. Right near where one had buzzed over me a while back.
Well I threw the truck into reverse, but trying not to scare it off. I got one picture and then it flew to another tree. I followed it a bit and got the second picture. So now I can add an owl to my wildlife picture album...Yeah!

I know. It is the little things in life right?

Yeah it it was on RT109 just aqfter 20 mile bay. There are two fields right there. It was in the first smaller field, then flew across the street toward the water. But when i drove forward I did not see it. Pretty tough seeing that bird. Good Camouflage. So you can tell I was pretty darn happy that I stopped and got a couple of pics...Thank God for Lasik surgery!

Great pictures! What sharp eyes to have noticed that while you were driving. Most people have probably heard Barred owls rather than seeing them. You can listen to them here: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Barred_Owl/sounds

We had a Barred owl at the science center where I worked years ago and I always loved to hear Seymour's call. I occasionally hear them at night here at the lake and it always makes me smile.

Don't you love lasik? I'm sure that you probably would have seen the owl with glasses, but seeing it with just your own eyes is so much better. After wearing glasses for 33 years, I had lasik surgery and am still amazed at the miracle of 20/20 vision.

Awesome shots! about a two weeks ago I was driving home down 109 just before the Tuftonboro/Moultonboro line and I saw the same type of owl. I had never seen one in the wild myself either and did not have my camera with me so I was mad at myself because I almost always do. It was something to see.

For the last two years three or four times a season as I sit in my tree stand some big bird would fly right by me but never made any noise. I just heard the sound of the wind through it's feathers. I never saw the bird. Until this year. One landed on a branch 6 feet away from me. It was an owl. It was HUGE. I watched him for about 1 minute before he moved onto another branch, then another. Very cool.
