Default great video RG!

definitely inspires me to get more pictures and maybe a video of my mother (now age 95) when she makes it to PI this summer... "flashing the Mount" is something she has done for decades, and looks forward to every year

I was told last week that they were likely to cancel the 2014 Shakedown Cruise. Hopefully this decision will be reconsidered.

I wonder if the owners of the Mount are doing well enough to keep the Mount in operation?

It seems to me that ridership is way down from what it once was.

Hope they can keep the ship afloat.

I thought they had to do that to check that everything was working properly, sort of an inspection???

They'll still do the inspection and check out all the ship's systems. They just won't have the invited guests aboard which requires a set day and time, catering, etc.

Since I'm usually aboard with several other forum members I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe they'll change their mind?

Hi Lakemamma, the Shakedown Cruise is by invitation only. Wouldn't it be cool if they held some sort of contest or raffle during the season before or through Facebook, with a prize of an invitation for the Shakedown Cruise?!

I suspect that the decision to possibly cancel the Shakedown Cruise was because of the predicted late ice-out. Many were speculating a May 5th ice-out, which would have been when this first cruise was supposed to happen. A lot of planning goes into this first cruise of the year. Hiring the crew, lining up Marine Patrol, inviting guests, alerting the media and the catering... Etc.

Just like the Webmaster, I am disappointed this rite of spring may not happen this year. Hopefully they will reconsider their decision. It truly is an excellent way to start the season and such a treat for those of us on board. It seems to be fun for the few boaters, islanders and homeowners that make it a point to give us a welcoming wave. On the upside, if you book the Mother's Day Brunch Cruise, you'll be the first passengers of the year!

Wink Mother's Day Cruise Booked . . .

the one and only time I won't be looking at it from the dock.

It's a great option to get a wheelchair bound person out on the lake.

Default Shakedown Cruise Update

Although the usual Shakedown Cruise has been cancelled there will be a (invitation only) cruise/media event next Monday (5/5) as part of Governor's Conference on Tourism being held at Church Landing in Meredith. The shakedown and certification will already have taken place.

I have received an invitation and I know some other forum members have too. The cruise leaves from Meredith at 11:30 so wave if you see us go by on the Mount. As usual I'll be taking pictures and videos which I'll post that evening.

I used to see the Mount all the time back when I used to go to the Weirs, and hear the horn late at night from the hotel as it came back from the cruise and I would go by the window to watch it drift back to the Weirs. Now that is in the past for me as I now live in Minnesota but, that was something I miss.

Default ....cash-for-clunkers but no chug-chug-chug!

....ayuh .....saw it very silently glide past Buoy FL-3 a couple hours ago probably enroute from Centre Harbor to Weird Beach ...... so whatever happened to the Mount's iconic chug-a-lug-a-lug sound that it used to make as it chugged past.......it no longer makes a chug-chug-chug sound.......now it makes more of a buzzzzzzz type of sound ....and it just ain't the same since it got two new engines a few years back......I want it to go back to that 70- year long..... chug-a-lug sound......chug-chug-chug.....too bad that Caterpillar could not have included a chug-chug-chug sound designed into their million dollar, federal government, cash-for-clunkers, two-new-engine replacement grant!

I was thinking I was sad to see it leave Center Harbor. Then I remembered it moved because we had ice out and now we can boat all over the lake. Yippee!

I agree, I think they should simply "pipe-in" the old sound it made. I miss it when I'm taking my afternoon nap and could hear it go by.
