Nazi Poker chips
This is a picture of a poker chip that was supposed to be of Nazi origin and one of a bunch found in the water very close to shore. I saw this item and looked it over carefully-very interesting.
I was on an island recently visiting the homeowner and this story came up. Seems someone in the family was in the WW2 and came across a set of these poker chips and brought them home. One evening the wife of the person who possessed these saw a game in progress and being Jewish had a real problem with them even in the house. She took gathered them from the table and threw them in the lake, hence their close proximity to shore. So the story goes. I asked to see the chip and the image attached is what I got of it. I would be interested in learning more about them if anyone can help me; I plan on a dive to recover some myself as I know where they are in the lake. |

I did a little googling on your chips as I found them fascinating...
I do not believe they are at all Nazi related. See cut and paste info below I found on another "gambling forum" regarding these chips. By the way there are tons of these chips on ebay for sale, I just checked... Pretty cool find! Dan "they were made as early as 1902, years before the 3rd Reich. They were made right here in the USA, by the Unites States Playing Card Company, a legacy that continues today with playing cards and the re-entry into chip manufacturing when they bought the Gamblers General Store (RT Plastics) of Las Vegas, NV. The swastika chips are very common on eBay (100's of thousands were made) and almost always are erroneously tied to Nazi Germany."

Among other cultures, many Native Americans used this symbol but I don't know what it meant to them. Also, the Boy Scouts "Order of the Arrow" formerly used this and was called something like "The Order of the White Swastika."

I'm pretty sure it dates back to....
Egypt. I believe it is a symbol used in gliphs. Not sure, but believe I read it somewhere before. Could be wrong....
