Here are my suggestions. Can't vouch for all of them being open since I am not there now, but I believe from what I have heard that all of these remain open for the winter.

Romantic dinner: Mise en Place
Cool bar: Garwoods
Great breakfast spot: Strawberry Patch

Default Good suggestions .... winter hours

Mise en Place is a great romantic dinner spot but is closed on Sunday and Monday. Garwoods is a fun bar (and dinner spot) and is open every day. The Strawberry Patch serves a great breakfast but has reduced their winter hours to just a couple of days. If they're not open when you're here, try the Wolfeboro Diner. Enjoy!!!

Ditto on Long Pine's recommendations.

Second options for dinner and perhaps bar, if you like Mexican.
El Centeniro

The Restaurant (that's the name) and Garwoods would also be good dinner options

Garwoods is great for a drink and it offeres fantastic views of the lake from the bar. I've heard good things about Mise en Place from this forum although I've never been. I can vouch for the Woodshed being a great dinner spot, has a nice lounge and a good atmosphere. It is a bit of a drive out of Wolfeboro as it is in Moultonboro, but it is worth it. For breakfast, if you are in the mood for a drive in the morining head towards Moultonboro and go to the Village Kitchen. I promise you will not be disappointed and you will agree that the drive was so worth it. Best Breakfast in the area in my opinion.

Have fun

I agree with Long Pine, but would suggest The Restaurant 03894 instead of Mis En Place. It's almost across the street from Garwoods and Strawberry Patch. I assume they'll have the fireplace going and the food is great.

And I agree with you, except I'd suggest The Restaurant over Garwood's for dinner -- Mise en Place is a different kind of experience, lovely and less casual -- and I'd go to Garwood's for lunch because it's the only one with a lake view.

A lot of people go to Mise en Place for romantic dinners, anniversarys, birthdays, etc. But you might want to make reservations, it is winter but they are small and you never know. The food is always excellent.

You could also drive over to The Lyons Den at the Gilford Town docks by way of Alton. The driving time was about 25 minutes the last time we did it. The Woodshed is also excellent and the driving time is pretty much the same.

If you pick the Lyons Den and want a window seat call for reservations. It is much smaller than the Woodshed, which is big enough that reservations in the winter are really not needed.

When we go out we usually go for the 6:15..6:30PM time frame which may be earlier than some would go, but we don't have any problem with being turned away or having to sit at the bar for an hour. NB

Thumbs up Patrick's Pub

If the hike to Gilford does not bother you, Patrick's is a great experience. Be prepared to wait for dinner. Waiting in the irish pub is a great place for people watching!

Thumbs up Patrick's Pub...

My beer mug should still be hanging above the bar area there somewhere.

BroadHopper, next time you visit, check it out or ask the owner's.

Default Mise en Place

Just ate at Mise en Place on Saturday night, what an incredible meal! My wife had pumpkin ravioli with shrimp, it came with a curry and coconut sauce. I had beef wellington, it was a special, just awesome. This is the place to eat in Wolfeboro, check it out...

Default The Restaurant

I suggest "the restaurant" for dinner and sit in the bar at Garwoods for lunch.

I did a post about "the restaurant" here:http://www.dailywolfeboro.com/2009/1...taurant-03894/ .You can get a feel for the style of food.

Romantic the Restaurant is not. Nothing in town competes with Mis En Place on that level. But I would say that the food at the Restaurant is right up there, better than Garwoods, just below Mis En Place. Also like El Centenario - food is good, service can be spotty. Although many of the suggestions here that are outside of Wolfeboro are very good, there is no need to leave town; you can get everything you want right there.

Default Cider Press

What about the Cider Press? My neighbor in Wolfeboro has recommended it to us, but we have never been. Any reviewers out there?
BTW, Mis en Place has the best food. The place is very small and not very intimate, but the food is the most creative for the area.

Default Yum!!

Well, here I sit, 1250 miles away (I guess that's the good thing!), doing the January "let's cut back" routine...so, hungry; and I read this thread! Great pictures! Is that shrimp scampi?? I need to get over to Wolfeboro next time I'm up there.

Default WinnDixie...

We are so very blessed to have so many great Restaurants left here as in it's a very tough business to be in in any economic environment! Nothing better than to be able to go out with family and friends and enjoy a great meal and atmosphere year and around!!!!

God Bless Them All!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on whether "best price" means lowest price or best value. Mise en Place is expensive but I have not left there thinking I wasted my money. You will find a mix of entrees from good sandwiches/burgers up to more expensive entrees at both The Restaurant and Garwoods. El Centenario also has a good mix of price points as well with plenty of reasonably priced entrees. I believe that both The Restaurant and Garwoods have their menus online if you want to check them out.

Default The Cider Press

The Cider Press is one of my favorite restaurants but it is closed for part of the winter. Check their schedule.
The one thing about them is that the food is coincident and good. Winter has a large fireplace and
the summer it is a place you can get into with a reservation since they expand the dining room.

I disagree with FLB, I have never had a good meal of good service at the Cider Press. Stopped going there 3 years ago after being disappointed each of the previous 3 years. Food was glorified diner food, decor out of the 70's. May have changed in the last 3 years - don't know - will not go back.

I agree 100% with Long Pine on value / price.
