Default Waldo

He's in the head! I love this post card. There are not a lot of pictures showing the Mount with her open Stern/Fantail. I remember that as a kid. The Stern was enclosed (c) 1971 . Unfortunately it was enclosed due to a suicide. SS Mount Washington II up until WWII. The Gov took her engines for the war effort. After WWII she was re powered with twin diesel Enterprise engines and called MV Mt Washington 20' were added to lengthen her hull in 1982 and she was designated MS Mount Washington and in 2010 2 new Cat Diesels were installed. Does anyone know what year this postcard is from?
Thanks.

Default Chug, Chug

Before the installation of her latest engines, we could hear her coming from miles away as she headed south past East Bear Island. In the evening, we would race down to our dock to flash the Mount. Great fun!!! 🐻

Thanks.
Is interesting the two new Cat marine diesels, priced at something like $750,000-total were acquired via the 2010-Cash for Clunkers government program where you turn in your old industrial engine and get a much more efficient replacement engine at a bargain basement, reduced cost to you.

President Obama personally removed the old and installed these new Cat diesels ....... ho-ho-ho ..... he did a great job for the Mount! So's the US tax payer actually foot the bill for maybe 90% of the $750,000 Caterpillar-two marine diesels, which are still in use, and will continue to move the Mount for years and years.

The new engines have a constant, efficient buzz type of sound while the old engines sounded like a WW-II movie ..... like a whoosh-whoosh-whoosh .....

Unlike The Dive barge, everybody just loves the beautiful iconic Mount Washington that's been on the lake since August, 1940 ...... why is that!
