Default Refinishing Hardwood Floors (Recommendations)

Looking to get recommendations on refinishing hardwood floors in an older chalet in Moultonborough. Only one floor with a small to moderate size open living room/kitchen and then two bedrooms done as well (my guess is 5-600 sq ft total).

Cost and efficiency will likely be the key considerations here so I'm wondering if others have had work done in the past that they can recommend. TIA

I had my pine floors refinished by Pete and I couldn't be happier. Out of the 3 contractors I reached out to they were one of two to actually respond and the best bid for the job. Took the time to explain the job, answer questions and explain how the process would work. Additionally, Barb who runs the office is easy to work with. Scheduling was straightforward and call / emails are returned. I would recommend to anyone.

Default Hardwood floor repair

I have a very small area of HW floor, that has finish worn away and needs to be lightly sanded and recoated with urethane. I talking a space of only 2'x6'.

I had called 'Pete' as recommended in previous Post but he's so busy and honestly, probably not worth his time ?

Can someone recommend a floor company or a handyman familiar with this type of repair. I thinking this should only be a 2 hr job, max ! Sand & coat !

Thanks !

Wish I could help, but I had guys travel up from Quincy, MA and bang out my floors in a day. They did a phenomenal job and a even better price. Sounds like your job might be a little small though.

Something that small and if its truly "light sanding" you can probably do your self with an inexpensive small sander, but carefully pick your area, too little and it will stand out as a repair and not blend well. Too much and, well you will know when its a pro-job for the big equipment.

They are extremely expensive up here. Back home in the Boston area you can get floors refinished for $2.50 to $3.00 a sq ft. Up here guys want double, $5.50 to $6.00 a sq ft.

Red face

I told my carpenter I didn’t want carpeted steps.

He gave me a blank stair.

I have done just this. Rented the sanders and paper. It truly is an art. Easy to make mistakes if not familiar with the process.

I agree it is easy to make mistakes! The largest mistake with sanding floors may be leaving the sanding machine on in a particular area for too long which can create dips or uneven surfaces.

Norfolk Floor Service out of quincy MA. Guys name was Wu and he was awesome. He brought one guy up with him and they sanded and refinished with two coats in a day (June 2019). Did they come out A+? To me, they absolutely did for the price I paid. These floors are in a pre-1950 chalet and had some staining due to furniture over time. Most of it he got to near perfect, others they worked hard at but there was only so much they could do. If you get ahold of him and a good price I'm happy to share pictures as an example.

Emptying out my first floor today as a I have former customer of mine that lives in Nashua coming up to refinish my wide pine floors.
He's charging me $2.50 sq ft for 3 coats of oil base finish.
I got quotes as low as $2.00 a sq ft but I'm skeptical of their work after reading their reviews.
I know I can trust this guy as I have know him for many years'
He also gave me a lot of money over the years so I feel good about giving him some of it back.

Floors are finished, look great. They were done by Lou Topia out of Nashua.
