Happy Memorial Day to all, let us not forget those who have fallen to protect this Nation. Freedom doesn't just happen and it's not a 'right' and it doesn't come cheap. It must be defended and so many before us have given their lives so that we may continue to be free. They leave behind broken familes, mothers, fathers, childern, and spouses. Screw the politicians that grandstand and use our military as a tool or punch line to garnish support for their own personal gain, the REAL unsung heros are those that have quietly served and done their duty with honor and integrity.

Listened to an NHPR Radio show today about Memorial Day in which they said wishing someone a "Happy" Memorial Day was inappropriate.

Me neither. But there is a difference between a "Happy" New Year and the "happy" celebration of a family's loss and the dead from war's sacrifice. Not a "happy" day. But enjoy none-the-less!

I find myself yelling at NPR at times. This was a point-to-ponder. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Good gosh. Come now.

I just visited my neighbor (US Air Force Veteran) and he wished me a Happy Memorial Day and I stated the same to him.

This is a day of remembrance and thanks to all who gave the ultimate sacrifice, to our deceased veterans, and to the family members. I wish only joy and happiness to these family members. And a big hug to our Gold Star mothers.

I hope you all have a Happy Memorial Day !

One needs to keep in mind that Memorial Day is not only for our fallen veterans, but also for loved ones wounded, families and friends.

I'm a very proud veteran, and stand today with those whom are among the living as well.
I served during the Vietnam war in the Army Signal Corps.

I'm not 'happy' per say about Memorial Day, rather I am grateful that we have the freeedom to celebrate Memorial Day to honor our veterans and those who never made it home. Don't forget the POW. If you look at your calendar it says 'Memorial Day' not 'Happy Memorial Day'.

I was at work on Memorial Day, and one of the other nurses called me at the end of his shift while leaving because he wanted to wish me a Happy Memorial Day. I knew that you don't really wish someone a Happy Memorial Day, especially seeing that I am not dead, but it was his sentiment in making sure that he made that call. I am sure that he was meaning it in the way you say Happy Veterans Day to someone to really say something along the lines of Thank You for either doing what you did, or being willing to do whatever they would have asked you to do. I understood this, and I appreciated the call immensely. It really touched my heart. I did not correct him, I just thanked him. I guess it was so touching to me, because he had never served, but he knew what it meant to. I wish the majority of society would have even a clue to what it means when you sign your name on that dotted line and say I will serve.
So, though not perfect in its etiquette, I think it is perfect in its sentiment, and damned if I will ever correct someone for actually caring about our military, though I might at some point in the future mention to him that Veteran's Day is our holiday, and Memorial Day is really for those only left in our memories. I certainly would not want to do it at the same time as his original thank you. It could be such a let down that he might never verbalize his thanks again due to being afraid of proper etiquette.
I think everyday should be Thanks a Soldier and buy Him or Her a lunch Day.

And it doesn't say "Merry", it just says Christmas. It says New years, not "Happy" If you want to just wish someone Christmas or at midnight on Dec. 31st just say New Years, go right ahead

I thought we already couldn't wish people Merry X-mas.We have been told to say Merry Holiday instead.I'm sure we will be told to say Happy all Years next.Next holiday to deamonize will be Thanksgiving.
