Lithium battery ALERT!
With all the news about Hover boards going up in flames I thought it best to alert those thinking about using a Lithium in their sled. Look what happened to this poor guy!

cordless drill lithium batteries???????
I'm beginning to worry about my Craftsman cordless drill lithium batteries and the multi-chemistry charger that charges these batteries. Do I have any reason to worry?

My experience with lithium ion batteries is to only buy name brands from a known supplier. There a million Chinese no-name knock-offs for sale and the scary part is that there are a lot of counterfeit ones out there with brand names on them. There have been problems with camera and cell phone batteries for years. For example my Canon camera battery sells for $65 and you can get a knock-off for $10. Its just not worth the risk.

The battery that the guy put in his sled was made by a company that claims to manufacture in the USA. Probably not the case, but that's my opinion. Lots of junk coming in from overseas. Another example is the local guy that bought a cheap Chinese vaporizer and was in the news the other day for catching on fire. Too bad that it happened, but these things are mass produced and sold cheap in convenience stores. Same thing with the hoverboard recalls. The batteries are built to sub-standard specs using cheap cells, poor quality and no controls or regulations. You get what you pay for. There are a number of good battery manufacturers in China. I deal a lot in laptop batteries and have sources that build them properly, to the level that we have sold them into major manufacturers of the systems themselves. The Japanese cells are good, the Chinese ones are bad. |

I saw a clip on the news the other night where a guy's e-cigarette caught fire while in his pants pocket because the battery exploded. It was caught on a store video. Must have sent the guy back to regular cigarettes.

Just goes to show you, there is no "safe" form of smoking.
