Default Water quality protection

Does the Lake supply any public water system other than Laconia? Are there any rules that protect water quality other than boat "No hazardous discharge" rules?

Loads of rules, some enforced better than others. https://www.des.nh.gov/water/rivers-and-lakes

If you'd like to get involved to help protect the lake, The Lake Winnipesaukee Association is your best bet. Tons of work on monitoring water quality, identifying specific risks, and working to mitigate those risks: https://www.winnipesaukee.org/

www.meredithnh.org/water-sewer is located across the road from Lake Waukewan, at the back of a large fenced lumber yard, and it draws its water from Lake Waukewan. Meredith Water & Sewer supplies town water for two large nursing homes, and the central town area going from the roundabout to the last fire hydrant down the end of Pleasant St before it turns onto Meredith Neck Rd.

The freebie paper cups of ice water at the Meredith McDonalds are Meredith town water, and it is excellent quality water at a very low price ....... no charge ..... even when you purchase nothing. Ditto that for using the McDonald's indoor flush toilet. The Meredith McDonald's is easily the #1 best McDonald's in the whole country, and it probably has the #1 best water, too.

Welcome to the Forum. NHLAKES.org also has many programs related to water quality, to keep lakes clean and healthy. You can access several related webinars on their site.
Many shorefront landowners use lake water, especially those on the unbridged islands.

#1 in the country? If that's the best then the rest must be pretty bad!

I think Laconia is the only town that draws city water from Winnipesaukee. Wolfeboro gets theirs' from Beach Pond.
