"Original sign from the first seaplane base on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH"
Found this while browsing the web, and found it a little interesting. Possibly a genuine piece of lakes region history, if the text on the back side is truthful. It's an E-bay sale the link below is for the listing. A little pricey but maybe worth it for an aviation enthusiast or someone looking for a unique special item. (For the record I have "No" meaning "0" connection with the seller I just found it interesting and do not know much more than what can be seen in the listing) ![]() https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-si...gAAOSwLuBcBBmQ |

Interesting for the right person. I couldn't read the letter on the back. Is there any indication of where this base was? I recall one at the Weirs, started in 1923, but no snack bar, at least in the 50's. Same for the one in Winter Harbor, but WH was less familiar to me.
Who signed the letter? |

Very cool but 605.00 is a little steep. 250-300 I would consider it.

Looks like it says: "Bobby" The colonel. It doesn't say where it is that I can read anyway.
I think it does say started by my father located at the Weirs Boardwalk. |

Clearly states when you blow up the back side. "Located on the Weirs Beach Boardwalk until the early 1950's"
Starts with "To my old golfing buddy Tom Davis It is signed "Cheers - Bobby" however it appears the way it is written that the author "Bobby" is/was the son of Robert S Fogg and gave this to his friend Tom Davis. Agreed a little hard to read from the photo. ------------------------------------------------ Quote:

I doubt if it is the Winter Harbor seaplane base because I think the Horns always owned it. I never remember hearing about a Fogg or Davis. Maybe APS can chime in here.

There have been a few threads that mention Robert Fogg over the years but I don’t remember which ones. I’m sure APS or McDude can help. I would love to know if this is authentic I might put in a bid

The Rice family is a bit of a legend. Does anyone know anything about who Jane was? Was it the wife of Thomas P. Rice, who owned Stonedam Island?
I find it interesting she is addressed as a "Ms." Didn't think "Ms." was used until relatively recently.

It appears Thomas Rice was Jane's grandfather and a partner of Robert Fogg. When I was around 9 yrs. old I'd watch TP Rice land his sea plane at Stonedam Island. I got to meet him and his wife. Their place on Stonedam was about as rustic as one could get. They did have electricity run by a generator. I think it powered one light bulb.
Someone on Stonedam is fixing the "beach house" up and has been spending a lot of time and money there. Someone told me it's a female member of the Rice family...Maybe Jane?

Thanks again for the group of photos. It really shows how much the waters edge has changed over the years in that little spot. |

Thank you TIS. Went back to look at this and McDudes links. Great information, I love lake history. I really would like this sign and I have a bid on it but not going near the 605.00 they are asking. Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
