That transfer to the Mt Washintgon group was several years ago. Then it was purchased by a private owner and moved by Miles Marine to the rear of Dave's Motorboat in Gilford. The last information I heard on it was that it was donated to the NH Boat Museum.

Two people who post on the forum occasionally, POSAS and Fargo, will have more updated information about it's current status.

The last thing I heard is that it won't go back in the lake which makes me sad. I loved seeing it.

Default Mini Mount

The Mini Mount is in storage in Gilford. Still waiting for the Museum to prep their land in Wolfeboro to eventually move it there for display.

Very nice it will be on display at the museum but I would have rather seen it roaming the lake again

I would have too. As I said, I loved seeing it. What a shame insurance is so darn difficult.

While it was a marvel to see out on the lake, it is probably best served becoming part of a museum, as it is destined now.

Insurance is obviously one factor in the fate of the Mini Mount. But there are others as well...... For someone to keep the boat as a personal vessel, and thus get it back on the water, there where obstacles beyond insurance.....

Having a place to dock the boat... At 50' long and 10 Tons, your average homeowners dock was not going to work......

Trying to house the boat out of the water becomes expensive as well... winter storage at 30$ per foot.... 1,500 dollars by itself... let alone winterization etc. every year... And if you don't have a dock to leave it at, that storage fee just goes up as it will need to be stored year around.

Lets face it, there are also very few facilities capable of dealing with the boat, getting it in and out of the water... And even fewer Marina's that would have a slip able to deal with her.

Mr. Miller did a wonderful thing and created a truly unique icon... But it was not destined to sail the waters of the lake forever.... and if you have seen the tight quarters you would understand why. It was his hobby, his muse, but no one else could ever love it and be as dedicated to it as he was.

The great news is that it didn't end up rotting away, in a warehouse or scrap yard. Thanks to Doug Smith, Tim Lacey, Al Dirth, Dave Tarbox and Bob Baker she has been restored to be idolized. She will not become a piece of folklore that is simply discussed, people will be able to touch and feel her for years to come when the vision of the NH Boat Museum is finished with the display location...

It broke my heart when she rested in Center Harbor exposed to the elements, I often considered what it would be like to owner her... But I always knew, it just wasn't feasible.... I was so happy when she was bought to be restored, and I too hoped that just maybe she would get one more final cruise... But I understand why her fate is what it is, and as sad as some might consider it, I see it as a bright future, as it could have turned out much sadder....

I totally agree, it was one man's dream and would only be continued by somebody else who had the will and the means. And I guess you are right, we will have to be happy to know that at least it will be saved. Still, it makes me sad to know it will probably never float on the lake again.

Default Mini-Mount

Great picture Gary. I don't think the new Boat Museum in Wolfeboro has been built yet or has even been started yet so I was wondering if the Mini-Mount is still undercover somewhere. I'm assuming your picture is several years old.

The Mini Mount is currently at Irwin (Hillcrest) in Alton. It was transported to that location in August 2020 by Miles Marine.

It was moved from Dave's in Gilford because he needed the room. The building it will be in at the museum is supposed to be completed this year.

I would love to see it go through the Barber Pole on calm waters.

Timothy Lacey posted some cool photos and videos of the Mini Mount on its moving day to Instagram back in late August. Miles Marine Transport loaded it on a flatbed. Great video -- and when outside of its enclosure, you can see how much work he put into restoring it. It looks fantastic.

Default Not clear when Mini Mount will be at the Boat Museum

M/V Mini Mount's reply to query on the Dec. 24 post with the photo that the Webmaster posted:

“Will remain in storage until Boat Museum moves it on land for display. Could be a couple years.”

The initial plan was to build some kind of housing for the Mini Mount on the side of the existing Center Street museum but that may have changed sometime after the decision to build a new Boat Museum off Bay Street. I couldn't find anything on the Boat Museum's website or Facebook about the status of the building plans or anything recent about the Mini Mount.

According to Wolfeboro town meeting minutes from December, the Boat Museum needed an extension of the special exception it had received and had not yet requested a building permit:

Default Mini Mount

The Mini Mount restoration is completed and stored under cover in Alton. It will be a couple years before the NH Boat Museum will be ready to put it on display in Wolfeboro. If anyone would like a free Mini Mount decal message me your address and I’ll send one out as long as supply lasts. Thank you for keeping Jack Miller and Ed Aleska’s Mini Mount creation alive!
