Default Ice runway

Is it possible to arrange a flight from NY to the Alton ice runway? I am looking for a flight on 2/20 during the day.

Default Anything's possible

Anything's possible, if 1.) The runway is opened (only 6-7 inches of good ice, need 12+) and 2.) Will it still be open. The runway has not been opened yet this year due to the lack of ice.

The ice runway has a relatively short lifespan each year. It is totally dependent on the weather on a daily basis. Snow, rain, and warm temperatures all factor into whether the runway is often on that particular day.

Where in NY are you looking to fly in from?

Dave

Default Facebook

Joebon, if you are on Facebook, I suggest that you follow Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway page. Updates by Airport Manager Paul L. are regularly posted there. Once open you could post your request there.

Absent that, once you know that it is open, contact some of the smaller airports in the NYC area to see if you can charter a flight. Most likely it will have to be a smaller single engine aircraft. Also, the airport (B18 identifier) is a VFR daylight only operation.

Good luck!

Dave

You would have to do a charter/air taxi. It's not airline service.

Default Ice runway

Does not look promising. . Still hoping for a turnaround and salvaging the Derby and Alton Winter Festival. PHC not looking good ☹️. Potential for a big Nor Easter next weekend up and down the coast
