Crickets!?
Does anyone know why there’s lots of crickets in the lake and on the dock posts?

We've had plague, three days of darkness and now locusts. What's next flooding?

Not sure about crickets but dragonfly larvae crawl up dock posts and become dragonflies quite a bit this time of year. . I’ve seen a lot of grasshoppers too this year but I’m thinking you’re seeing dragonfly larvae casings.

Grasshopper
We have been commenting about how many grasshoppers are around this summer. Even in the water have had them land on us

We have found several grasshoppers in the house.
Even more can be found everywhere including in the waters of Lake Winni. |

There are a lot of grasshoppers this year for sure. As well as hornet/wasps whatever they are. I don't know the difference.

Also ... cicadas
Maybe they are grasshoppers. They are grayish in color. Why are they in the lake? And have you seen the cicadas? Many flying around the lights at night and one got into our house. They look like extra large flys!

There are definately more grasshoppers this year. And yes, the cricket sounds at night seem much louder than usual. The things I hate the most this time of year are the yellow-jackets. They don't seem to be any worse than any other year, but they certainly swarm this time of year. I was stung yesterday and didn't even know there was one around.

I heard the cicadas two nights ago on Welch Island. About 9; pm thousands of clicking noises up in the trees.

Yeah, I was surprised when I started seeing hoppers a month ago. Had to do a double take. Definitely early. I'm guessing because of the warmer weather. As far as crickets, I took my granddaughter outside last night to do some stargazing and hopefully some meteor sightings and she was actually startled by how loud they were.
