Default Lake Winnipesaukee - On Chronicle -Nov. 25

Note this is Channel 5 in Boston not Channel 9 in Manchester...

Quote:
Ted Reinstein explores Lake Winnipesaukee from every angle: on a train, on a boat, and even from the surface of the water, as he meets a man who swam the length of the lake – twice! He's traveling around Meredith and Wolfeboro, where he finds a diner that's so successful nobody goes there, a flashback to the days when traveling meant big cars, cheap gas, and lakeside cabins, and a man who's bought 80-thousand cars.

Assume u r talking about M-boro cable. Maybe switch to a Direct tv dish; In Meredith it has 2-4-5-7-9-11-12-44, same as Boston channels. Just like being in Boston.

Not to detract from Maine....Maine is a terrific state....and home of the Big S submarine sandwich in beautifull Lewiston, Maine.

The FCC rules protect local affiliate stations within their marketing area from duplicate programming by stations outside this area. So, for example, Moultonboro, Carroll county is in the Portland marketing area. If channel 8 (ABC in Portland) is broadcasting THE SAME program channel 5 (ABC Boston), the rules say the provider must block channel 5. If a different program is being broadcast on both channels then they are not blocked. (Channel 9 is a special case)

Center Harbor (Belknap county), by contrast is in the Boston marketing area, so the reverse is true there. Its fairly simple for a cable company to block and unblock a channel town wide in their head end, whereas its not practical for a dish provider to do the same in each receiver nationwide. So, you will find most cable companies blocking/unblocking programming and dish providers just removing channels outside your marketing area.

I have several friends with Moultonboro addresses with dish that just lost Boston all together. Time Warner is switching Boston on and off. This is all done to 'protect' the local affiliates marketing area commercial revenue. Doesn't this make you want to rush to Maine to buy an advertised car?

I just saw a promotional ad for the show. It looks like it was recently filmed and they'll be talking about the lake in the off-season when you have it "all to yourself".

Could this possibly be recorded on Youtube for us non-residents to see?

I made the mistake of posting a thread with the same "heads-up"....so I am posting on this one so it hits the top of the "general discusion" forum.

I am not going to be home to watch, but I have set the DVR to record. I think Pineedles asked about recording on U-tube....Good idea, but don't know how to do it! So, who out there is that "savy" that can pull it off?

Thanks....eillac@dow

Default ....and it's in HIGH DEF

Videos of the show will be available on the CHRONICLE WEBSITE shortly after it airs. Note yesterday's show is in the HD Archives already.

New detail has been added to the website. They'll be visiting Moulton Farm, George's Diner, Proctor's Lakehouse Cottages and The Old Country Store.

Default Archive available?

Thanks for the info - I thought I had been set to record the show, but it didn't record, so I missed it. I checked out the Chronicle website but couldn't find the show - I found a 15-second preview, and an article about it, but couldn't find any replay of the show. Has anyone actually found it on their site?

It looks like it takes a few days. When the camera icon appears next to the Winni story it will be ready. (probably Tuesday) Thanks McDude, we were going to miss it.

I keep checking every day and am surprised at how long it has taken. Whoever is in charge of uploading video to the archives must be visiting Grandma for Thanksgiving!

I got a kick out of seeing Fred C. on TV! (RG: Do you remember meeting him?) He has the most impressive collection of Winni memorabilia and ephemera imaginable....like a museum!

HUH? Meridith gets 2,4,5,7,etc on DirecTv? I've been up here for years with DirecTv and never got any Boston Channels.
