Default Getting Closer

Growing up in NJ we were 335 miles from the lake. I am now 215 miles away by living in CT. My son lives in Cambridge which is about 100 miles closer. We keep getting closer and closer with each generation.

Our drive is almost exactly 100 miles, door to door. I was a bit torn on which category to vote in

Default my trip to the lake

I really have to gear up for the long drive to the lake. 6.2 miles from Gilford Village to Lake Shore Park.

One of my favorite things to do is "complain" to all of my MA/RI/CT friends on Sunday afternoon about my long trip home.

I Know, I Know, I Know... it's not nice of me to do that.. but it's soo much fun. And, if I happen to forget to tell them ... they remind me..

Other than that, I'm really a nice guy.. honest.

Default Depends...

Property tax benefits keep my "primary residence" 2000 miles away, but six months of the year I'm just 40 feet from the lake.

Default 209 miles from where i am sitting right now!

i dont "live" on the lake, but when i am at our shop i am about 40 feet from it! when i am home on the island i live on i am 60 feet from the high tide line in the "pond"! i try to never be far from the water... i feel very fortunate to be able to live on two of the beautiful waterbodies in the world (IMHO).

Default OK Folks... Welcome my sister to the forum

Wannabesaukee is my sister, and the Moose Lady from this post.

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ead.php?t=7209

I'm gonna bet she wins the "most distant" prize. In her post she says she's "about 4,000 miles".. google map says 4,510 miles!

She'll be visiting with us this summer.. we can't wait! (No, she's not bringing the moose)

66 miles to Gilford/Fay's and 55 miles to Alton Bay. Takes about the same time for either location from my home. Hopefully at the lakes region someday.

LOL, same with us. How lucky we are to be 30 feet from the lake! I think in most places , if you built before the late 80s, early 90s, you could still be 30 feet from the lake!

In 1969 I married my wife and drove to Alaska in our 1969 Vw bus. Drove from Bedford MA to Eielson AFB (26 miles from Fairbanks) via Buffalo to Cleveland to Chicago to Twin Cities to Jamestown ND, crossed into Canada at Portal to Edmonton to Dawson Creek and then the Alcan to Eielson. Total mileage was almost 4800 miles. Left on Nov 19th and got to Eielson on Dec 4th with a day's layover in Edmonton to get the bus winterized.

Yeah, been there and done that, and you definitely get my vote. Hope you get here soon, and I hope you have got your "sourdough rating".

Default Too far away!

It's 305 miles from Clifton, NJ to Sandy Point. After trying many different routes over the last 22 years, I've found the shortest drive (5 hours flat with no stops and no traffic -- and keeping the cruise control on 68):

Garden State Parkway, NY Thruway to Tappan Zee, 287 to Merritt Parkway.
91 to Rt. 3, Rt. 2 (East Hartford), then 84 E to Mass Tpke.
Mass Pke from Sturbridge to Auburn for 290.
290 to 495N. In Chelmsford, Rt. 4 to 3 North.
Everett Tpke. to 93 in Hooksett. Exit 15 to 393, then Rt. 4 & 9 into Chichester.
Take the short cut thru "downtown" Chichester to Rt. 28
28 to Alton Circle and then Rt. 11.

I think the car knows the way by itself after 5+ years on the road.

Default distance

Well, 4.7 miles from primary on 11A to lakefront on 11.

Also from home, 1 mile to boatyard where boat stored, quick hookup, and less than a mile to Glendale to launch.

Is it Summer yet?

It's about 155 miles from Providence to Exit 24 near Ashland. Trip meter usually says 111 when we reach the state liquor store rest stop in Hooksett. Can't wait to get up there in August!

Default southern NH

74 miles, drive way to drive way. And I enjoy every one of them on my weekly Thursday night departures. Just 8 more weeks to go until opening.
When we closed last October, it seemed like it would be forever. But now, just 8 weeks. And with the Sox opening this Monday, the time should pass quickly.

From Farmington CT to West Alton Marina (another 60 though if I start the meter at work before getting home!). But, we still made it up nearly every weekend from May through October last year...

I live 3100 miles from the lake, so I don't get back there often enough, however I do live on the salt water whose area is as beautiful as it is at the lake. I currently live in Juneau, AK, which is about 2,800 miles as the eagle flys to Moultonborough, NH. Google Maps won't give a driving distance, because you can't drive out of Juneau!

It will be tough to beat APS, even when I lived near him he was still several feet closer (his house is 'grandfathered' for closeness to the Lake), but now I am off the Lake, but only .7 miles to the water and beach.

Google Maps says I'm 50.3 miles from our driveway (in Hopkinton NH) to West Alton Marina where we launch (yes, we trailer back and forth!). Subtract 2 miles if Ames Farms' launch ramps ever re-open to the public (god, I hope they do soon!)! Nothing against West Alton Marina; the people there are great, it's just their launching and parking is a little cramped. Plus if Ames re-opens, that's 2 less miles on a narrow, twisty section of Rt 11.

Thank god I don't have to travel 93 South on Sunday evenings; that traffic is horrendous just getting through Concord!

On the lake, an island in Tuftoboro in the summer. Loved it here so much we built our off-season retirement home near Melvin Village.

It's 371 miles from our home in western New Jersey to our cottage in Laconia just down from the Governers Island bridge. It's a 6+ hour drive but worth it every time.

It is impressive, and a tribute to our lake's awesomeness (I know), that 20 percent of the folks coming here do so from 200 plus miles away!

I have lived in Laconia my whole life just one mile from the lake. I can't imagine living any where else. The only exception being bike week. It is pain just commuting to work.

From Beverly to Minge Cove and a couple miles further to Smith Point RD where we rent the cabin we enjoy so much. The boat stays at the lake and we drive up as often as possible during the season.

150 miles or so in the car to get to the boat and then another mile or so out to the island. Throttling up to get on plane as we leave the marina is the best part of the trip!

At the moment, we're about 2050 miles away as we sell our old house.

When we get home, we're a half mile walk to the bridge in downtown Wolfeboro. Technically that's Wolfeboro Bay, I guess....

From the poll it seems like most live 1 to 2 hours away. I know when we were looking my wife wanted to keep it under 2 hours. But this past season the traffic was so bad an hour and 45 minute trip took us 2 1/2 hours.

0.6mi as the crow flies or 1.1mi if I walk.

It's the 400' of elevation gain to get back home that can be the issue or a great workout depending on how you look at it. It does make for some nice views.
