Little Island in Paugus Bay
Was up at the lake yesterday and I notice that someone is building a house on Little Island on Paugus Bay...? I know that there was a house out there a very long time ago and that the Fire department burned it down? (Or so rumor has it) I have visited this Island many times in the past... There was an old foundation on it... Does anyone know who is building the new House..? Who owned or does own that little piece of land..? Can you build on it?

Small Island.....is that the name, or description?
I saw the foundation a few years ago, along with some burned wood. I was fishing around the island, we were staying at the Happy Landing Hotel. There was a sign saying private property nailed to one of the trees, I checked it out anyway, and thought it would be cool to build there, small, but cool nonetheless. GS

That's the Name
That is the actual name. It's right next to "BIG Island". Very original!

Yes indeed... Can't forget it... I have grown up on Paugus Bay my whole life and have visited and fished around those Islands... Last year there was a dock put up and now this winter there is what appears to be a 2-story house going up... No electic? No sewer? No way you can have a spetic? But it would be nice to own your own Island... I thought maybe the Fish and Game or Marine Patrol sub station?

Private Home
Not sure about the utilities, but I know that the owner had to jump through some serious hoops to build. Once he proved that prior structure stood there, it was just a wait to go through the permitting process. Nice Guy.

Can someone snap a flick?
I would love to see, and it will be a few more months before I am up.

I was at the lake on 31-Mar-05 and took a picture of Paugus Bay from Burger King. When I blew up the picture I was puzzled until I remembered this thread. From this distance (0.6 mi), I can't tell what it is.

Paugus Bay Small Island
Back in the early 1960's my family owned the Golden Gate Cottages on the Weirs Boulevard just opposite Small Island. There was a house on the island back then, but it was abandoned. The house was a two story structure and the outside was covered in a gray-like artificial looking brick shingle.
I recall that a boat slip was built into the southern end of the house. Inside the boat slip there were some open glass battery cells that must have been used to supply DC power for the house. I had heard that the house had been owned by the Laconia Fire Chief at one time.

There are probably a bunch of old threads that would be fun to resurrect!
